Should Doyle be disciplined?

Good one Keefebag. These kids could have bought a supplement at
GNC or online which could have been the culprit. And you want Doyle fired without an investigation.

Good one Keefebag. I hope you're not in management.

I hope you're not in comedy because you don't get sarcasm very well.

Here is the deal, HaydensHawk.

You want to make your case under a set of ASSUMPTIONS. You can't wait for facts to come out without making your case. You even said so in your second post in this thread, that this is based upon assumptions. Many people are just not as gung ho as you to hang someone out to dry based on a theory when they can wait for facts to come out and then make an argument for what should happen.

And what you will do, if your assumptions are incorrect? Then you will apologize to the board, but you will state that your argument was based upon assumptions. You didn't start a conversation about firing a guy for something he didn't do, should it be proven that it wasn't the way you currently think it was.

I think acting like that makes a person kind of an idiot. But that is just me. People always want to toot the horn on Iowans, and how their values are so great compared to other areas of the country. You are just a big gossip right now that really doesn't care about anything except trying find fault with someone when you don't even know the facts.

Nice "Iowa" values.

Why is that a problem? Are you a family member of one of the players? Are you a higher up in the athletic department or the university? Or are you just a fan?

If you are just a fan you don’t have a right to this information.

Heck, at this point even the coaches do not have a right to know what is wrong medically with those players. It is up to the player or his family to allow the coaching staff to know this information.

We as fans are not entitled to know the inner workings of the football program, let alone the medical status.of its players.

As for the S/E "situation" we only have the right to know what is on public record. The coaches publically commenting on a legal case which they might be called to testify in is at the very least legally irresponsible and possibly illegal.

Regarding the Everson/Satterfield case, do you think the University and specifically the athletic department wanted the facts (truth) to be revealed. Does that explain why two letters written by the victim's mother questioning the investigation and the role of the athletic department weren't forwarded to the Board of Regents?

Yes, you are correct that "we the public" aren't entitled to know everything, but don't family members and other university officials who are directly or indirectly affected have that right? The track record of how former controversies have been handled within this athletic department and the university at large makes me wonder if family members or officials who need to know will be presented with all the facts in this current situation involving the hospitalization of 13 football players. We are not off to a comforting start when Chris Doyle and his staff are not even allowed to speak to the media and Coach Ferentz or Gary Barta were not even in attendance at today's press conference.

It should also be noted there is still a decision pending regarding the lawsuit filed by the Iowa City Press-Citizen against the University under the Open Records Law involving the Everson/Satterfield investigation. Why has the University stonewalled for so long? It only breeds suspicion that they are hiding something. I guess the Iowa City Press-Citizen feels it is in the public's best interest to know how a serious incident was handled by one of our public universities. I commend them for their dogged pursuit of that. That represents the kind of honest and open society I want to live in.

Feel free to read the following and refresh your memory on how people within the University handled the Everson/Satterfield case. Pay close attention to the comments of Chuck Green, the Safety Director at the U of I, in the ESPN article.

If the image doesn't come up right . . . it's a knee jerk reaction. Much like the idiotic OP. Come on guys, this is ridiculously over blown. We will forget about this in a week.

I not only want ALL the coaches fired....but I want EVERY scholarship athlete to be cut from the UIowa athletic program....all these kids are a little too high on the hog don't you think? Time to hit the reset button RIGHT?! WHO'S WITH ME!?!?

Or maybe we could all just go down to the Hamburg and get a pie shake.....whatever.

WAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Or maybe we could all just go down to the Hamburg and get a pie shake.....whatever.

AND THEN, IF THEY GIVE ME SCRAMBLED EGGS INSTEAD OF SUNNYSIDE UP, WE CAN HAVE THE WHOLE STAFF FIRED, AND THEN RAZE THE PLACE TO THE GROUND!

Holy crap, people. If the S&T did something negligent knowingly, such as withhold water/Gatorade/etc, forcefully overwork players, give out bad supplements, or give bad advice, then yes, those responsible should be punished accordingly.

If, however, there were factors that they weren't aware of, or if it was a case that players didn't report issues they were having to the staff until it was too late, then I'm not sure you need to be canning coaches who've been with Iowa for quite some time now.

Most of this staff (as a whole) has been with the program for the better part of 12 years now. Individual assistants undoubtedly turnover, but Doyle's been with Iowa for 12 years, and we haven't seen anything like this. Perhaps individuals had been treated for something like rhabdomyolysis, but we sure didn't hear about it. Certainly, to have 13 players admitted to the hospital due to exercise induced injuries is concerning, however we don't yet know the full story. How about we wait to find out more, before we go out and lynch somebody?

Kinisiology Major. I now operate and run a sports training facility for high school and college athletes in chicago. Any other questions?

It is the same reason when doing power cleans why you never did more than 8-10 in a set, it only hurts you. That is, unless your trainer is an idiot or trying to make a point and hurt you.

Oh... I guess I'm the ******* then....
