Shonn Greene will probably be a Tennessee Titan this fall.

I'm surprised a team like the Packers don't try and go after a back like Shonn.

quick edit : not a Packers fan just kinda tossed that in there because they've had some serious RB issues it seems as of late.. but I see they are going for Steven Jackson I guess.

Agreed. Shonn would see more snaps in Green Bay than Tennessee.
Green Bay seems to have been running back by committee in my lifetime.
Tennessee OL lost Hutchinson to retirement, but picked up a Guard in Andy Levitre from Buffalo.

Chris Johnson was horrible the first 4 weeks last year, and they kept him in the game.
I'm surprised that Steven Jackson left St. Louis, as Jeff Fisher is one of the few run-first head coaches out there, today.

Shonn should sign with the Broncos, there were some rumblings they might be interested in bringing him in

I think this will be a good spot for Greene. Not to mention, I already live in Nashville, so it'll be nice to watch him and Klug go at it every week!

I think they just signed Steven jackson

I am a packer's fan, and I'm not sure if they signed steven jackson yet or not, but they need a big back that can stay healthy. Also, Jackson has never been to the playoffs and I guess he would like to before it is over. I think Greene would have been a good fit for the Packers as well.

I think what Greene did was a shrewd buisness move. At this point in his career getting a 3 yr deal for 10 million is great. Being able to get that and play 2nd fiddle to CJ is even better for his longetivity. He will get 10-12 maybe 15 touches once in a blue moon tops. Unless CJ gets hurt. But for the most part he'll get to be the thunder to CJs lightning and not get a ton of wear and tear on him. He'll be effective and valuable in that role and have a better chance at being healthy after 3 yrs so he can have a chance at another pay day. Some may not like what he did but I think his agent did a wonderful service to him setting him up for success on the field and for the rest of his life

Thanks for finding that. I was under the impression that Greene could go to Denver ATL or Green Bay depending on where Stephen Jackson went. So when I first heard TN I was kinda surprised. But this makes sense. Greene doesn't have the ego to need to be the bell cow and I think Greene knows that if he keeps his touches a year under 200 it greatly increases the chances of him prolonging his career. He "only" made $615k last yr. Other than Washingtons rookie that set the world on fire last yr not many starting rbs made that little. This is Greenes first big pay day. So by all means his agent gave him some great advice Greene has embraced it and I'll be rooting for him to make an impact and have a great finish to his career.

As long as Greene is in a one cut, down hill system he will have success.

This and I don't believe Johnson will be there much longer. I think Shonn could end up a little like Michael Turner. Be a back up and then with more experience he could be a solid starter. He was just in a terrible starting spot with nyj.

Why do you feel Johnson won't be there much longer? My 2 cents is this helps him. The other moves they've made with adding the guard and blocking te are showing a commitment to the run. They don't trust Locker yet so they are doubling down on being a ground and pound team. I don't think getting Greene hurts Johnson. Only in fantasy football in that he won't get many goal line touches. But there are plenty of touches to go around. I thought he got paid and a longer term deal a yr or so ago too. I think Munchak had a plan this off season and alot of it revolves around Johnson running like he was about 3 yrs ago. I think with better Oline play and a play action game that could very well be the case. I could be wrong..

I also don't think "being the man" factored in his decision to go to TN at all. He could have received similar money to go to Green Bay or Denver and been the man. I think he saw a great situation to limit his touches and prolong his career. Greene has plenty of experience this is going to be his 5th yr when most rbs only play 3-4. That also should have nothing to do with his playing ability at this point.

Johnson did get paid but as most contracts in the nfle go they tend to either get cut or have to take a paycut about the 3rd yr into it. This does help johnson but when he had his big yr he was in a man blocking system. He could be a little more dance and wait for the big play in his running. They now use a zone scheme which doesn't fit his style as well. He also will take a lot of punishment and speeds backs that get the ball as much as him tend to break down.

Remember with the contract that he is #1 a rb which means they can find a 7th rounder to replace johnson (just look there are less and less 1st and 2nd round rbs because it is a 2 man job). #2 look at how many contracts get played out that are longer than 3 yrs outside of the 1st contract and star qbs. #3 look at johnson's ego. He thinks he will rush for 2000 yds again...I can't see him getting within 600 yds of that if greene is taking carries from him. And that 600 is the closest. I think he is more like 800 yds from it. Remember greene was a 1000 yd rusher they just brought in to back johnson up. #4 greene can block where as johnson can't. So look for him to be a favorite to protect the young locker.

I would not be surprised if johnson is gone in 2 yrs and they go and get a speedy guy to split time with greene.

CJ is the face of the franchise. I doubt hes going anywhere anytime soon. Im sure his contract will be restructured but lets face it he sells tickets and puts ppl in seats for the titans. The dude is a playmaker. Greene is gonna be nothing more than a short yardage back. You gotta be able to catch to be a 3rd dwn back in nfl.

I can see what your saying be true just as much as what I thought. Johnson has as big of an ego out there that's a fact. I certainly don't see Johnson getting much over 1200 yrds. I could see him getting between 1000 and 1300 tops. With Greene getting 500-700. That would be a really good year for them if they did that. Your certainly not wrong that in 2 yrs in the Not for long league anything can happen

And johnson has now come out not happy about the greene signing. Titans coach said greene would get series and not be just a situational back and johnson wants to be the only guy as he is not a fan of a 2 back system.

There was a small write up on espn. But I am on my phone and can't link it.

Pretty much you don't pay 3+ million a yr for a situational runningback.
