Shocking Story on Everson/Satterfield Trial

i saw this women on TV testifying. I did not reconize her nor was her name revealed. they said she was a heavily recruited athlete. Was it for basketball? i see where a basketball player from this years team testified today.

Joe - this is the woman who was allegedly raped. heavily recruited nationally as a swimmer.

Good grief. Did anybody learn from the embarassing situation that took place on Hawkeye message boards a few weeks ago? You know, when many Hawkeye football players were singled out as drug users only to later be proved not to be.

Think before you type.

He got rid of those things when he moved into the room after this all happened. He had nothing to do with it, but then again you should know that if you read about it.

Easy tigers. The Press Citizen stated that DJK was the one who threw away the mattress and the condom. I remember it being a big deal at the time because the football team came under the radar for a possible cover up. I'm not making up **** about DJK. I just wrote was has been reported in a reputable (cough) source. Then I wondered out loud if that has something to do with his tenous relationship with Ferentz. It's not exactly a huge leap. And hell, it's not like I called DJK an addict or a dealer or anything. Get a grip.

Innocent until proven guilty I suppose.

But I'm with Duffman on this one. I can't believe what I am reading from some of you.

Daniels testimony as to her character was very telling, I think

In no way do I think Everson deserves 25 yrs in the pokey and a lifetime of registering as a sex offender based on what I read ... especially given that Satterfield gets off with probation ... but some punishment is merited as best I can tell.

satterfield maybe...but how can you possibly come to the conclusion that Everson had consent? maybe i missed something, but ive seen nothing even close.

I've not been convinced either way, was my point ... testimony of people with questionable character doesn't have a lot of weight

First of all, I believe what happened was horrible. Like DuffMan said, nobody I've ever been with has ever been left in such a condition as this young woman.

Secondly, I would simply have those of you ponder her motive for pressing charges. What do any of you think she really has to gain? Saving face? Some here are already suggesting she's: a bad decision maker, not "little miss bluebird", "overly friendly", etc. Is it for money? What money? These guys didn't make it through our program -- there's no NFL money waiting for her.

Maybe, just maybe, she's continued forward with this because she truly was a victim of a serious crime and only wants justice to be done.

except there has been testimony that she wasn't asleep. she says she was. perhaps she did give consent and didn't recall.

to the person who said think if this was your mother, sister, etc. think if this was your brother, your son, etc, and it was not rape. they have to prove this beyond a reasonable doubt. and it takes two to tango. it's just not clear i.e. they broke into her room, etc.

No one has given testimony that she wasn't asleep with Everson. Satterfield said she was asleep when Everson tapped him on the shoulder when questioned by Lahey. He then backtracked to say he didn't know her state of conciousness when questioned by Spies (and this was what his prior interviews said during the investigation).

That's not enough to convict someone and there could be many motives. I wont get into them less i get labeled as insensitive.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that it is enough to convict. What they are saying is it's tough to imagine she is making this up when you look at the other facts of the case.

Does anyone else find it odd that Pierre Pierce was nearly universally despised by Iowa fans for doing something very similar to what these guys are accused of doing, and yet there isn't the same outrage here?

A lot of that is probably due to the fact that he was allowed to stick around, while these guys were gone fast.

lots of differences in what happened and the way things played out.

I've flip-flopped on how I feel about this case at least 5 times.

I found this piece of info interesting. It was posted on today's Press-Citizen live blog:

Physical evidence didn't establish that any of the sexual contact between Everson and the woman was an act of violence or against her will. All of her descriptions of the acts of degradation were involving Satterfield.

Looks like we're heading toward 3rd degree sexual assault instead of 2nd. Not sure what the jail time is for that.

I found it interesting that Everson had Daniels stand outside the door were the incident took place.

There are many reasons to have Daniels stand outside that room. None of which are good.

No reason to ask a buddy to stand outside the door of a room that can be locked when two college athletes are hooking up.

If someone was going to be doing things in which they didn't want to be caught doing, well that would require someone to stand outside and make sure nobody tries to get in or have knowledge that the female is in fact in the room.

I think we are going to be looking at an acquittal. For Satterfield being a prosecution witness, he did not help them at all.
