Sorry I haven't given recruit updates as faithfully the past 5 weeks or so. Stuff got really hectic for me. One note I wanted to pass along--Nic Shimonek led his team to a 28-14 win the Texas 2A Division II semifinals tonight. Mildred HS will play next Thursday night for the state championship.

For fans from Texas, Shimonek and Mildred will play on Fox Sports Southwest at 8 PM CST next Thursday night.

This kid sounds like a the real deal for 2A division II in Texas! Lets hope it translates into B1G football when he gets to Iowa!

the thing I like about him he playes for a run oriented team, so making the transition from his hs to Iowa's style of a balanced attack will be much smoother than a kid that playes in a pass happy attack
his HS team stats
182.5 ypg passing all by Shimonek 33 td's and just 5 int's with one game left which is the State Title in Division II, and he is rated higher than Stanzi was
273.6 ypg rushing
with Shimonek avg 60.1 ypg on the ground and 16 rushing TD's on the season.
this is what I have been hoping Iowa would get for a QB.
someone that can run as well as pass, you can have your RB turned QB or your WR turned into a QB that takes a couple years to maybe able to do both like DRob for Michigan or TMart for Nebraska

I suspect that FoxSW is available to anyone with the DirectTV sportspack, which I have, here in Chicago. Just hope I remember to tune in on this game. Sounds like Mildred is heavy underdogs,so Shimonek might be passing a bunch to catch up. The other QB in the game is going to TCU as an athlete...runs a 4.4 and is mainly a runner. Nic is not fast but has run effectively this year anyway, but at the Div 1 level,he is not going to be running.

Stats aside. The question on everyone's mind is how is he at throwing the short routes and an occasional intermediate route?

ESPN has a nice write up on him, as well as lists his strengths as being: Accuracy, Arm Strength and Reads.
the scouting report: "this is a player that might have slipped under the radar as a late bloomer. crisp pocket passer with good height and the frame to add bulk/strength and mature for the next level. Shimonek's ability to smoothly and quickly get the ball out, is what make him most attractive...." to read more you have to be a insider, this was written up last spring
since then he has attended a elite 11 camp in Dallas, where he was given the Golden Arm Award. he did not attend any camps this last summer because he was the starting SS and Pitcher, with him throwing a no hitter, he is a 3 sport star as he was awarded a Sectional award in Basket Ball after avg 21 ppg and 13 rpg as a JR for his HS team, his listed 40 time was from 2 summers ago at 4.9 40.
with him being a SS his range and quickness will not be a issue, and his arm strength is not in question as he is/was a pitcher.
to watch videos, do a seasch under Shimonek stats and there are numerous videos of him playing in different games. sorry that is one thing i cannot do as it seems to mess up hopefully someone more computer savy can be of help as they show a great deal

Have you seen him play SS??? How is his range and quicks? TIA

last fall his team fell short of the Title game losing 35-28 in the semifinals, 1st time his HS as made it to the state playoffs since 1974 going 13-1 last year

Tough first possession for Shimonek. He escaped a sack and threw it away on first, then dropped the snap and took a snap on 3rd. After that, he punted and it was returned inside the 20.

One thing that is obvious about Shimonek, regardless of his metal tools, he has a cannon for an arm. His last couple of throws have been very powerful.
