Shawn Johnson retiring from gymnastics

I am very proud of Shawn as an Iowan and as an American.

Iowa isn't a hotbed for gymnastics or any other Olympic sports. She had to overcome a lot of obstacles to achieve the success she has. Let's try to appreciate her for those efforts.

No doubt she will be a success at whatever she chooses to do. A beautiful woman inside and out.

You can at least show respect to what she did for her sport and country. Or you can be jealous of her success, because that is what it really seems like this is instead. You don't have to like her, but what did SHE do as a person to cause you to personally dislike her? Dislike the media, not her.

how doesn't it make sense? the media in the state beats us to death with how great the people who leave iowa to be successful in (insert sports, entertainment, etc. here). they get jammed down your throat so much that it drives you crazy. it's like how the national sports media created tons of tebow haters with their round the clock tebow coverage a while back.

i don't have to like someone just because they too are from iowa. and telling me that i should only makes me dislike them more.

The "media" is nothing more than a "business" whose goal is to make this stuff called "money," which, in their case, they make by increasing their ratings. They do this by putting popular stories and personalities on their shows, and Olympians and sports champions are, indeed, popular, or they wouldn't bother having them on. See how that works? So the "media" isn't shoving anything down your throat, just giving the people what they want to make more money.

Pissy negs like you can change the channel or not read an article if you don't want to. But of course I'm saying this to some guy that constantly trolls a Hawkeye sports board, so I know you can't change the channel even if you wanted to, since you think everyone's got to play by your rules.

it's definitely the media's fault. i don't dislike shawn, zach, lolo, etc. i just get tired of hearing about them constantly.

If you're tired of hearing about them, it's your fault, not the media's. Turn the channel or turn the page.

I think its ridiculous anyone would call her fat. She was never fat. At the point where they were calling her "Fat" I thought she looked absolutely lovely and hot. If I wasn't in a relationship I would love her . She is a cutie for sure and the fact that she does/ did gymnastics is just a plus. I don't care what anyone/ the media says. Shawn Johnson is sec c.

She was never fat, just got a little thick, and I like that, girls these days are so afraid to be labeled fat they end up not eating and looking like the stick you Popsicle sits on.
