Shaq to Iowa ?

After watching Mn vs OSU this weekend, and seeing some of these videos, does Shaq remind anyone else of a more talented Al Nolan of MN?

Is Stokes, or any other bball recruits, in town for the game tomorrow?

I thought I heard Stokes was targeting this weekend for a visit.

Thanks for the link. Sounds like this kid would be a good get. I saw Clown recruit, Tavon Sledge, was on the opposing team. Some pretty good interest in Stokes. Anyone think we have a decent shot at him?

I think better than average chance as he goes to the same high school as Iowa assistant coach Andrew Francis... I just hope Iowa didn't offer him too late, but I still have a good feeling on this kid.

Stokes was just named the MVP of the Milwaukee tourney. A lot of local guys were impressed with what they say there.

More on Stokes as of late, with an Iowa mention....

Shaq Attack: Stokes making mark as Lincoln's leader - NYPOST.com

Stormin, do you know if Kamari Murphy has reclassed to 2012 or not? I've seen contradicting statements about that. I think his Yahoo profile has one class listed and ESPN has another, but I've never seen anything written specifically saying he changed classes. He'd be an interesting recruit, as would Dickerson.

BTW, though he may not be my top choice, I'd be thrilled if Stokes came to Iowa.

I would love to see Iowa start a Lincoln High pipeline. They have had some monster talent come out of that school (Stephon Marbury, Sebastian Telfair, Lance Stephenson, Jesus Shuttlesworth, just to name a few). Isn't one of Iowa's assistants a Lincoln grad?

Edit: Checked it, and yes, Andrew Francis is a 1992 Lincold grad.

Stormin,
Do you know when & if Stokes is going to visit IA City? What do you think the chances of landing him are? Does he have any other high major offers?

I thought I read somewhere that Stokes and Basabe played for the same aau group and that they were friends.

I don't have a date on Stokes' visit, but he is supposed to come some time in the near future. Iowa has a good shot to land him, but it will be interesting who (if anyone) Iowa gets between Shaq, Carter, and Guerrero. I'd be fine with any of them. I like Carter's game the best (from what I have seen on limited videos) - trust me, I don't know near enough about his game to give a full scouting report. Stokes' recruiting is heating up, his play in the last tourney peaked some more interest.

Yes, Stokes and Basabe are friends and played on the Gauchos together.

This would be a good get. You know, I bet Fran is very aware of who Wes Washpun is, and yet he's recruiting a kid from New York that sounds very similar. This leads me to believe that Fran thinks this kid is better than Washpun. I think Fran's ability to recruit out there could really pay off.
(ex. Basabe)

Agree with you that McCaffrey's roots out east could pay off, but getting east kids to come to the Midwest, especailly to a program that hasn't exactly torn it up the past few years, will be no easy task. Not too difficult for other coaches to point at our record, distance from friends and family and talk a kid out of coming here. Per Fran's call in show last night, this type of negative PR has already cost us one recruit and is part of the process.
