scUM is back

I said 9-3 is their ceiling, I don't expect them to have that record. ND will beat them on Saturday, UM will be without their best WR Roundtree on Saturday and will be down another starting DB vs. ND that was also injured against UConn. And excuse me if one game didn't knock my socks off but how did UM and Tate Forcier start off last season? Oh yeah now I remember........

This pains me...I'm feeling dizzy and nauseous...but...I totally agree with fufred on this meatchicken topic. I see them at 6-6 this season, maybe they squeak out a 7th win in the best case.

Looked comparable to ISU to me. Qb is accurate and makes the right reads in an option offense. to stop it you need good pursuit by the backside end, good open field tacklers at the safety and cb spots, and lb who are great at play recognition. Most of the top teams in the country have all that. The spread has been figured out by D-dcoordinators. If they had a qb and a big bruiser at tailback and a great possession receiver, they'd be Ohio State and be very tough. They don't and are not. scUM is ISU-good enough to win the games they should, but not the ones they might.

9-3 (5-3) will be competing for the B10 title. Espcially considering they would be 5-2 coming into the reg season finale agaisnt fOSU and I don't see fOSU being undefeated at that point.

29 carries for 196 yards on the ground...
19-22 for 180 something through the air...

A good QB can absolutely carry a college football team, and he looks to be very very good QB.

Is that you, Deace? I think you're getting a little bit ahead of yourself. Yes, D Robinson looked very much improved, but our D is just a wee bit better than UConn's I would say. Plus, Meechigan's D is not going to hold us to even 20 points. Who do you see OSU losing to before they play by the way? Us? Just curious. And if Meechigan wins the B10 title, then by God you're a genius and the rest of us are just ruh-tards.

ISU and Michigans offensive systems are not even close to the same.

Who ever figured out Rich Rods system when he was at WVU? Iowa won't be able to stop Michigan if Denard is healthy.

Everyone said stuff like this when they beat Notre Dame. Michigan could be good and I think they're improved (they won one game in conference last year. It wouldn't be that hard to be) but to claim Michigan is back when they used to be a national powerhouse after they beat an unranked University of Connecticut team is a little premature.

Iowa will knock Denard out of the game if he runs as much as he did against WVU.

West Virginia was very impressive offensively but I can't really remember them playing too many strong defensive teams. They put up 48 on Oklahoma, which is very impressive but that's the only one I can remember. The Big East has been the worst big time conference ever since lots of their teams left for the ACC. Essentially West Virginia has been playing a conference schedule that had some Conference USA type talent. Especially on defense.

I'm not saying that his style can't be successful in the Big Ten, it can, but I doubt his teams will go out and put 40 points up on the board every night like they did at West Virginia. This conference just has too strong of coaches who understand the defensive side of the ball and the Big East just doesn't have that.

I don't know if they're back, but they beat a tougher opponent than Iowa did and looked good doing it. It's one game. Deace says there is a civil war going on behind the scenes. So I hope the Big10 puts Rich Rod out of his misery and they go through another coaching change. A coaching carousel usually means more fluidity so putting Rich Rod out on the street will give a couple more seasons of uncertainty.

Michigan isn't going to stay down for a long time. They have too much in-state talent to be sub-500 for a long period of time.

UM has never relied on in state talent to compete, h.s. Football in Michigan actually doesn't churn out many high level D1 prospects.

Sorry, I have not heard of this yet. Civil War between who? Rich Rod & the board? Also, like some people have pointed out, Rich Rod ran that offense in the Big Least. This is the B10, where teams actually know how to play defense.

scUM looked good on Saturday but UConn was absolutely HORRIBLE. THeir defense was undisciplined and their offense was terrible against a very soft scUM defense. I dont think Denard Robinson can run that much each game and stay healthy through the Big 10 season. ND should be a better test for them because their defense seems to be better and more disciplined. I am not sold on scUM (just see last year).........

Those that were waiting for scUM to beat ND before they start taking them seriously can begin to take them seriously.

Those that thought we should wait a bit before sayind Robinson is a very good college quarter back can beging to say he's a very good quarter back. I mean all he did was set a scUM record by compiling 502 yard of offense....

People are already comparing him to Antione Randal El and I don't think that's fair... to Randal El. An 87 yard TD run... are you freaking kidding me????

He's the scariest player in the B10 (I'm looking at you Terrel Pryor), he'll he's probably the scariest offensive player in all of college football right now.

Season Stats:
43-62 (69.4%) 430yds 2td 0int
57car 455yds (long of 87) 3td.

He's averaging nearly 450 yards of total offense per game.

From what little I saw of that game it looks like the way to beat Michigan is through the air, their secondary looks a little suspect.

Their secondary looks/is very weak. But Denard is undeniably one of the most exciting players in college football for now at least. They need more players to step up but I think they are at least better than last year. Can he stay healthy for a whole season? My instincts say no, but it seems very hard to get a square hit on him because of his speed.

I saw a couple things that amused me recently though.

2 things to consider:

1. UConn and ND are average at best teams right now...especially on defense. They will probably be much improved come November.

2. Robinson IS Michigan's offense. I am curious to see how healthy he will stay if they keep asking him to run the ball 25 times each game. I agree with something Lou Holtz said (OMG, I agreed with Lou Holtz!). He said that QBs ability to throw is greatly affected if they get dinged up. Asking a QB to run that many times per game is a blueprint for him to get dinged up.

Michigan has a cupcake schedule until the MSU game. Robinson might very well have close to 4000 yards of offense under his belt by that time. If I'm Michigan, I'm hoping that there are some big enough leads in those games to put him on the bench and save him for the next week.

Right now, Denard Robinson is the best player in college football, and it isn't even close.

The only way you can consider Michigan 'back' is if you considered UConn 'good' and ND as 'back'.

Two negatives don't make a positive.

If Michigan and Denard Robinson is an unstoppable offensive juggernaut, how did they only convert 530 yards of offense into 24 points? How did they go 3-16 on 3rd downs? How did they end up +3 in the turnover department and still need a last-minute drive to win?

That's great for Michigan that they get 95% of their offensive yardage through one player-- it gives people something to talk about. But they still look like a pretty average offensive team, and I think they will still struggle to score consistently in the Big 10. Yes, we will see some 30-40 point performances, but against disciplined teams that keep containment on Robinson, they will struggle to get anything going.

Michigan is definitely the surprise of the year so far. Robinson will surprise me even more if he makes it through the MSU game without getting dinged up.

There are two things I like about us playing Michigan when we do:

1) They play MSU prior to playing us...MSU is a very, very physical football team and you are going to come out of that game with some injuries and physically depleted.

2) Norm gets two weeks to prepare for this team.

I like our chances of figuring out a way to slow down Robinson and make him beat us with his arm in second and third and long.

MU barely held on to beat Notre Dame. I don't think ND is that good. ND held on to beat Purdue last week. Yes, UM looks better this year, but I'm not as afraid of them as I am of our game this week against Zona.
