Scott Frost on Iowa Rivalry

The last time that I remember anyone gunning for Iowa ...someone wanted a piece of Iowa was 2003...Michigan

Did he out of the blue say this or did an Iowa reporter ask him about playing Iowa and he blurted this out? Frost along with all other teams in the West should be more concerned about gunning for Wisky

It was part of a longer answer to a question I asked. I will be writing up a story tonight/tomorrow morning.

I would imagine that some of the results of the games between Nebraska and Iowa over the last 5 years bother him. When he played, Nebraska was light years ahead of Iowa. Physically and athletically a game between the two programs in the mid/late 1990s would have been a joke.

Now the programs are on pretty even ground and Iowa has beaten them up in 3 of the last 5 games.

Penn St was gunning for Iowa in 2009. It was a white out game after we spoiled their unbeaten season the year before in Kinnick. Adrian Clayborn and Norm had other plans, however.

I thought of the same game. PSU made a really BIG deal out of it. It was going to be their revenge game for Iowa spoiling their perfect season in 2008. They made it their big white out game. Then splat! Iowa wins again, dominates the 2nd half.

It's even worse than that. Iowa has actually won 4 of the last 5, with Nebraska's only win coming in OT.

Iowa has won the last 2 games 40-10 in 2016 and 56-14 in 2017.

Iowa is dominating Nebraska the last 5 years.

You'd think something as simple as that could have been uttered by the previous folks that'd been in charge over there the last 10 plus years. Frost is plenty self aware of where the program is and the importance of rivalries. I would say that's been Nebraskas biggest downfall the last decade is their thinking they should be on OSUs level footing but they haven't been anywhere close to it. How many 4-8 seasons have Bama and OSU had lately? I don't think Frost has any delusions of grandeur in thinking he'll have them in the playoffs this year. But he knows building a rivalry the right way with Iowa is a step in that direction.

"Gunning for them" is a bit of a broad statement that could mean a lot of things. I've been a detractor of KF for treating each game the same w/o emotion.

Gunning probably means taking extra time to prepare for tendencies and using your strengths to exploit others weakness. Extra time in game film study. Making sure the team knows the importance of the game. Doing things differently. It can be more difficult for a team to combat "gunning" in that sense.

Does anyone know what he actually accomplished at UCF? In 2014 UCF was 12-1 and were conference co champs in 2015. Frost was there, what 2 years in 16 and 17? He did turn around a winless team, but ws it really that bad?

Wonder if the fans will get behind him on that. After all we are way beneath them and don't deserve respect. Frosty just flipped the switch to on.
