Schwartz nails Hawkeye MVP

I'd argue that CJB is the MVP for the exact same reasons. The conclusions he poses can only be reached by one's performance relative to the other.

Certainly an interesting angle for sure. And there are a few angles. The likely hood of JR setting the world on fire at Michigan isn't very good but as of today the what if is there. However the bottom line is CJ and the teams performance will be what the staff will be judged on this year more so. I just think till Barta is no longer the AD Ferentz is going to be the HC... I think with the change of president that day will come but it'll take a really bad year (not a 5 or 6 win year but worse) for Barta to even consider canning him. What Rudock does will just be fodder for us fans and the public relations court in the media to have fun with.

Well the only way Jake will be successful in Ann Arbor is if Harbaugh can readjust his internal clock for getting rid of the football. If anything, I think Harbaugh can do it. He still has to be able to identify the vertical receiver that is open, and commit to the throw. It's something he struggled with at Iowa.

Now, having 3-4 great RB's like Michigan always has, is also going to help Rudock if he starts. A good running game does wonders for your passing game and shields your QB from having to carry your offense. Against good teams, our running game barely had a pulse and the QB had to be the difference maker. For this reason, I'm not sure Schwartz's conclusions are as simple as he suggests.

I agree because here's another angle. I don't think anyone would argue that if coaches decided on Rudock then CJ was going to leave. And if that happened we'd have just the one more year of JR and then on to a redshirt sophomore or 2 redshirt freshman who'd hardly played if at all.. This is what I think went into Ferentzs mind set as much as talent. It all went together. CJ (and or his Dad) played their cards cause they had the best hand. He has 2 years to play and he has the most physical upside. With no proven depth behind him it was really a no brainer for the coaches to go the way they did. (How quickly they did it & how was so out of character is what makes us all believe that it was the card playing that made them do it) So it's not just where the program may be this year because of this decision but the following and beyond that is influenced by all this

I somewhat agree with the Schwartz article. However, JR might have better skill players to work with at Michigan and thus skew his value if he does quite well. Although Michigan has not really been Michigan for some time so he could produce comparable results there compared to Iowa. He may even perform better because he is one year older and wiser.

No, with Iowa it will come down to line play on both sides of the ball as it usually does. CJ has the arm, but is going to need the protection. The line will also need to give the time for our WRs to make it down the field. CJ maybe the MVP, but the line play is the key to the season. Oh ya.....there is also the coaching to consider as well....cough, cough, forward laterals on kickeroff returns, onside kicks, not knowing how to use timeouts, throwing short of the marker, etc.

Bored and waiting on a flight so I read another Schwartz piece against my better judgement. He starts out by saying the game is more than one player, then proceeds to say how 1 guy in three different scenarios will tell a great deal. Never mind the other 21 starters on each team that are either new, or a year older.

Note to self... Resist giving that guy clicks

That was my thought as well. There are many other variables at play. I don't think Iowa fans have a clue how good michigans skill players are one way or another. Line play ect. Not to mention scheme and play calling.

If JR shows a willingness to take chances down feild we will know that all the check downs at Iowa were what he was coached to do. But let's be honest, we already know that.

Here's a line I've heard somewhere else...and it makes no sense.

>"One can only let himself be jerked around so much"<

How in the hell does that apply to Rudock?! He reatained the starting job despite his obvious limitations and the fact that CJ clearly had better physical tools...something that was evident to everybody from ESPN broadcasters, to Jon Gruden to the old lady 2 rows in front of me. (never mind thousands of other Iowa fans who watched every game last year)

Despite that Kirk kept him as the starter. How is he the victim? I'd argue just the opposite...he was protected longer than he should have been.

Only time will tell if Goldie Locks will be the answer. If he is a fail and Rudock fails at Michigan what do we learn from that result? Iowa recruiting sucks at the skill positions? That's never crossed my mind how about yours?

Not a new concept, but it would be an indictment of our coaches philosophies that have remained unchanged since 1999.

KF handled the QB position so POORLY last year you could make the case that both were JERKED around.. It was an epic failure and quite honestly it should never happen at this level of competition.. It was the breaking point for me and showed me that he clearly needs to leave the game.. Just no way that should happen!!

As for JR who can't see how this playing out? JR goes to Michigan and looks like a complete stud. If that happens what a kick in the nuts that will be..

I disagree with the article. What we do on the field is all that matters.

We will be much better with CJB. Your going to see this season how much one player does mean in Football especially when he's your QB. Calling JR good is putting lip stick on a pig. He may excel at Michigan cause a game manager might but his QB choices at Iowa on the field were horrible. Maybe 3 of our wins can be attributed to Jake putting us on his back but seriously every other win we won despite him.
