Saturday is the biggest day in the history of Iowa sports

I get there is a lot of negativity about what could have been, the asterisks on the seasons, the ISM flip, the QB play, Kirk calling his timeouts at the end of the Minnesota game, etc., but we really need to get focused for Saturday. In hoops, we are playing the number 1 team in the country. In football, we are playing Michigan. If we win both of those games, Iowa will be the undisputed best athletic department in the country. In the past 12 months we will have racked up wins against Wisconsin, USC and Michigan in football and UNC and Illinois in basketball. Naysayers will say "yeah, but we have lost to Purdue thrice in that period." They need to just leave the program right now. THIS IS ABOUT RIGHT NOW.

I don't want you guys to be all sloppy drunk on Saturday night. Some Hawk fans plan to start drinking during or even before the basketball game. We need to pace ourselves. Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with catching a power nap between the games, but please stay hydrated out there and don't get so drunk that you accidentally sleep through the football game.

If we lose both of these games, it will begin an era of darkness similar to the meteor that hit the earth and caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Just so you guys know, we’re in the middle of an audit at work, and I took Friday off work so I could go fishing then instead of Saturday. I never do that. Ever.

If we lose both on Saturday, could it be the work of...Satan?

Uh, dude, you forget we totally smoked Syracuse in the Carrier Dome in basketball too, one of the legendary programs and coaches in the sport. How many teams ever go into that house of horrors, 20,000+ screaming fans, and bring out a W. And in football you left off the monumental win at Penn State last month. Last I checked Happy Valley was like the second biggest stadium in the country. Yet our QB went in there and took care of business, hanging 41 points on 'em.

An amazing amount of tongue in cheek hyperbole there.

I seem to remember a day and night in late March about 40 years ago when Lute and his troops won their way to the final four, walked into a totally jam packed Old Fieldhouse, got a great welcome, then about midnight the once again National Champ Iowa grapplers walked into a thunderous ovation at the fieldhouse.

That was a pretty tremendous Saturday or Sunday actually

Sorry, cannot comply with above request....................I need to be drunk enough to cry uncontrollably, or happy drunk enough to dance naked in the street (and that would be a scary sight.......)

Hey, uihawk82, thanks for bring up that day in 1980. I remember it well. My son & I watched the celebration which took place in the old fieldhouse.

That was a very significant day in Hawkeye history. This Saturday could be a banner day for Hawks but it doesn't rival the 1980 event or several others for that matter.

Good one!

The trifecta would be the clones going down to Oklahoma. I'd be beyond f***ing giddy if all three happened.
If that happens I’m cranking “All Night Long” by Lionel Richie on the four 12” 2 ohm Vegas in my garage that just won’t die no matter how long I feed ‘em 750 watts. They must’ve built speakers better in the nineties because my amp is gonna melt before those things blow.

It’s so goddamn loud. I’m 40 years old so I should probably stop doing that.

Neighbors on both sides are Hawks and they like to stumble over with a bunch of booze when awesome hawk stuff happens. If the Hawks beat Gonzaga, Michigan, and Oklahoma wins Saturday my place is gonna be a poop show with friends stopping by.

Hmmmm, might be worth a road trip Fry

This sounds like a bunch of immature adolescents badly miss behaving! (What is your address?)

I have a set of lights from a cop car that I got on a state auction several years ago that I bolted to my ceiling in the garage. Didn’t have any wiring diagrams but I trialed and errored my way through it and made a kickass control panel with a bunch of switches. I can basically crank music and have a custom light show. It’s one of the older light bars that has actual rotating red/blue lights, plus it has red/blue strobes, yellow flashers (can make ‘em go left/right like a state patrol car), white strobes, you name it. You’ve never seen a more impressed person on the planet than when somebody comes in my garage super drunk and I let ‘em have the controls for a while LOL. It’s beautiful.

Um, not to ruin your little fantasy here, but prior to whatever family health issue or whatever it was caused you to abandon your post, you had procured a vinyl recording full of classic Hawkeye songs. Have you been able to get it to play yet? TIA. OK4P

shit if that all happens, I'll come down and dance with you.

Haha I would love to have an HN meet up!!! I’m afraid there would be too many folks who want to do me in like Fredo, though

@HawkGold visits the site 2-3 times a day just waiting for an opportunity lol. Which is weird because he’s asked me to ban him multiple times and said he’s leaving even more times than that.

I do think that a selected PM group meet up will have to happen at some time :)

In all seriousness, we’re on the cusp of some shit that hasn’t happened in any of our lifetimes, nor any of our grandparents’ lifetimes. If we can pull these two wins out it’ll be the roaring twenties of Iowa sports (our wrestling team is number 1 by a WIDE margin). Let’s fucking go Hawks. Get it done.

It's like most things internet... if we actually met up, I'm sure 95% of us would have a shit-kickin' time and get along great. The only better part would be "Damn, you look a lot more f***ed up than I thought you would". (says the guy that took the deep dive into internet dating between marriage #1 and #2.)

I have not. It’s still in the original plastic wrap. I’ll provide pics.

This Saturday upon two wins might be the best time in history to play it

I need to procure a turn table.
