Saluting Paterno

Pat Harty (like him or not) brings up a good point.

This may very well be Paterno's last visit to Kinnick. I'd love to see the fans give him a standing O. Have to admit I don't recall, do they officially announce the head coaches...perhaps at the coin flip? That would be the opportunity.

I'd love to see Kinnick give JoPa a loud, heartfelt standing ovation. He's a legend.

Then...we kick his butt.

My dad, brother, and I went to the PSU game in 2003, thinking it would be his last visit to Kinnick. At the end of the game we stood above the visitor's tunnel and applauded as he left the field. It's hard to believe that 7 years later, he's coming back.

I was at Bobby Cox's last game at Wrigley Field this summer. They announced him before the game and everyone gave him a standing O, and they had a GIANT Bud Light banner on one of the buildings adjacent the park that said "We'll Miss You Bobby! This Bud's For You!" I thought it was a really nice and classy way of handling things.

Every time he comes to Kinnick everyone thinks it's going to be the last time. Who knows if this time it's for real, but it would sure be nice to keep him winless in Iowa City during his final years. No matter how the fans react tomorrow I'd bet most Iowa fans feel nothing but respect for Paterno.

Dang it, I thought I would see some more moped photos here.

VRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!!! GET OFF MY LAWN YOU KIDS!

PSU will be back in 2012,but I doubt JoePa will be at the helm. He has had increasing health issues the past offseason, and I think the end is near for him as a head coach.

I agree that some kind of ovation for him is appropriate, and would be great ...sportmanship is important to KF and JoePa....do it,hawk fans.

It would happen if we knew it was his last time to Kinnick (aka he announces that he's retiring at the end of the season). You'd probably have some sort of announcement made pregame and the announcer would ask the fans to join in honoring Coach Paterno, etc...

Oh my god Jo Pa was caught riding a moped? He is soooooo starting by middle of season!

God bless ya Jo Pa, no need to reiterate what is already known about this legend, it will truly be a sad day in college football when he hangs it up.....

Did anyone else hear Rob Howe mention that he was getting heckled by "fans". It must have been last year, unless they've already arrived earlier today. Classless.

I think Joe Pa is well above some of the scoundrels coaching in the Big 10 and think he runs a pretty clean program, on par with the Captain. But considering the way he has managed to cower officials, especially in Happy Valley, to his advantage over the years, and still seeing his scrawny butt hustling across the field and into the tunnel to berate the zebras following a loss to Iowa, I would have a difficult time standing and applauding him. I would never expect to see that from KF. JMHO, YMMV.
