Sagarin Predictions

I don't think this ball game will even be close. Brian Ferentz is the real deal calling the offense. My god, the tape that he put out there for teams to analyze on Saturday is going to cause nightmares. The only way we lose or this game is close if Iowa is -2 or worse in turnovers or has a bunch of bunk penalties. Iowa is a markedly better team than ISU.

And we could be - stadium is loud and our center is new.

I would respond, but he beat me to it. Purdy just isn’t very good without these guys:

Pressure on Purdy will be the key. It is such a luxury for a team to be able to get pressure or speed the game up for the QB with the front 4 guys. When Iowa has had that, they've had the best years.

It will be interesting to see if Iowa St. copies the Miami of Ohio gameplan and have Purdy get the ball out quick to offset this. I suspect that will be the case.

I think this will be a really low scoring game. I agree that the Hawks' WR's are better this year, but playing a team with a lot of WR's really is what a veteran ISU defense sees every week in the Big 12. Ultimately I think this game will come down to the lines - is ISU going to do better in pass pro, is Newell going to be healthy at the center spot, and is Iowa going to get a running game going.

All I see is Clone fans saying that Iowa won't be able to score against the Clone D. Why is that? I mean the defense is pretty good, but looking back at last year and what ISU gave up, it isn't like they were pitching shutouts.

28 to WSU
24 to Drake
38 to K State
24 to Texas
31 to Tech
42 to OSU

I do agree though, it is going to come down to line play. ISU's Dline is pretty good, but Iowa sees good Dlines alot in B1G play over the last couple years. Northwestern, Penn St., Wisconsin, Michigan, MSU, OSU all teams that have good/great Dlines. Miss St. had the THE BEST Dline and defense in the country last year. Iowa still put up 27 vs that Miss St. D while rushing for -15 yards. Iowa didn't have Fant in that game, and now they have a much improved Smith and Smith as well as Tracy, Rigani and Oliver Martin.

I am concerned about the IA DB's. We're thin...playing a walk on.
Purdy is good enough to make this a mismatch would could be the difference in this game.

I think we have a kicker and they don't. That's going to be huge in this game. It's good on good everywhere else, talent-wise.

Continuous improvement, new O plays and tendencies a bit counter to what we've presented in the first two, not knowing where the next play will go, will be hard to defense imo. O-coordinator starting to feel his oats!

The D has been working on some new looks to unveil Saturday that will be a progression from the Rutgers game, another uptick in offensive disruption. Goodson running loose, maybe even bust a long one and not get caught from behind (damn it's been a long time).

I believe the Hawks win.

I don’t think it will happen. Couple of reasons:

P.Parker knows this going in.

ISU doesn’t have the deep, or hasn’t found yet, their deep threat or 50/50 receiver.
But .... you know, Iowa

ISU’s offensive scheme is ball-control rushing and passing philosophy. That means dink-n-dunking down the field. And then throw deep when teams cheat or throw to some 6’10” guy in the end zone when they get close.

I think Iowa State moves the ball between the twenties. I think they have more FGs than TDs

Iowa 24 Iowa State 16
