Sad, sad, sad.......

It has nothing to do with inefficiency. You could spend 5 trillion dollars on travel expenses selling frozen turds all over the United States. It doesn't mean you'll end up with a decent return on that investment.

Selling playing time is about all ISU has going for them... So yea they can attempt to put lipstick on the rest of that program all you want but outside the fluke gets like Lazzard and years ago Blythe and further back the Davis bros (they weren't huge recruits at the time but they turned out pretty good) they can't put a great class together and then match it the next year so they can put a good team on the field. Recruiting requires multiple years of success not a 4 star kid here and there.

Agreed. So imagine if a school that had something to sell...spent that money. WTF don't we?

Because most people don't speak DERP like you and da drummer do.

You got the negative Nancy brigade that takes any and every story and turns it into an excuse to bash KF or Iowa football. I mean next thing you know you will have posters taking a positive like Iowa baseball having the #1 recruiting class in the B1G and turning it into KF and Iowa football bashing.......I know that sounds ridiculous, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happened.

Things are bad enough with Iowa football, and KF has 100 different reasons to bash on him....we don't need to just make even more crap up to pile on, or at least one wouldn't think so. Yet we still find these threads popping up anyway to do just that.

That would make the most sense. If you have the lowest talent pool compared to the competition, it would seem that spending more money attempting to woo that talent pool, is the best way to spend your money. But I honestly do not believe it's a matter of the amount of money Iowa spends. I think we spend on the lower end because KF and staff choose to travel less than other staffs. And I think KF prefers it that way, so that he and his assistants have some family time. While I commend KF on his dedication to family (no nepotism jokes, please), this isn't the kind of job that rewards less work, more family time. Before any of you jump on me about the "family time/more work" comment, I mean that in a relative way. If opposing coaching staffs are committed to spending 2 solid months recruiting, the moment the last game ends and KF chooses not to, that's a self inflicted, competitive disadvantage.
This racket really is about "keeping up with the Joneses". If you choose not to keep up, you fall behind in on field performance. That's what we are facing now. IMO.

When you are in a state as unpopulated as Iowa, you should be near the top in recruiting apending. The fact that they aren't is a very good reason to bash iowa football. Maybe one of the best reasons if you ask me.

We have the highest attrition rate in the Big Ten. Our recent recruiting classes are near the bottom. Now we have evidence that our spending on recruiting is also near the bottom. All this with a coach who's "longevity" is considered a plus by our AD

What part of that is "made up crap"? I'd be interested in your enlightened opinion.

Once again, just think too many posters take everything and turn it into a BASHING exercise. What part of nearly DOUBLING our recruiting spending is bad? The results are bad, but once again why bash the fact we have double the spending recently?

I don't think the amount we spend is why they are recruiting bad, and I think the fact the we have doubled our budget on it, and still have these results show that. Oh, and thanks for thinking my opinions are enlightened.

Five-year total (average)
Wisconsin — $1,157,345 ($231,469)
Iowa State — $2,500,049 ($500,010)

So how come ISU is not better than Wisconsin?

Thanks for providing proof of derp.
ISU's first string was on par with Iowa's first string in 2014.
Mebe ISU is trying to shore up the second string through hamburger squad members so injury won't take such a bite out of performance?
Like what might happen to Iowa when injuries occur this season? Derp?

Don't ya know, Deanie? We're Iowa? BTW, what a BS of an excuse that is.

Speaking of indiscriminately bashing someone, like you and ISU, do you understand Iowa could very well be in the same boat this season with a good to great start until injuries occur?

How's all that spending working out for Iowa State lol? I read a column recently that said ISU is one of two D1 programs yet to have a commitment for a 2016 recruit. The other is Colorado I believe.

I can appreciate the "bash fatigue", fair enough. But you have to admit, those documented numbers paint a consistent picture...and it's one of woefully weak performance for a guy who's the dean of coaches in the conference.

How much increased spending would help is an unknown, money alone doesn't guarantee success.(insert your favorite example here) But you don't know if you don't try. I think it's reasonable to expect leveraging of all available resources considering the results we're getting...and IOWA football has the resources.

Or we could run the stretch to the short side of the field again.
