Rutgers=red-headed step-child

Big Ten Network commercials have played in Yankee Stadium. Think about that. That doesn't happen without Rutgers...The population of the Rutgers/Maryland areas? yeah, good move.

Heck, if anything, Iowa would be one of the first teams kicked out of the B1G Ten. The two largest TV markets in Iowa are the Des Moines-Ames & Cedar Rapids-Waterloo markets. Together the two markets have 770,470 households with TV sets. There are 7,384,340 households with TV sets in the New York metropolitan area. The Washington D.C. TV market has 2,359,160 households with TV sets. Maryland is in the D.C. market. Plus, throw in the 1.085,070 households in the Baltimore market.

The addition of Maryland & Rutgers was a no brainer. The next TV contract after the 2016 season will be remarkable. Easily could be worth twice the amount of any other conference.

I'm not sure anyone could have predicted the bottomless pit that the Rutgers football program has descended the last year. When Rutgers was added along with Maryland, it didn't seem like such a bad fit (from a football perspective). Schiano had turned Rutgers into a competitive program again, and Flood, at least initially, seemed to be continuing that. All this off-the-field stuff that has happened is incredible, and it's amazing Flood hasn't been fired yet.
