Rutgers 2022

This Iowa defense is going to be historic. It is going to face maybe 3 elite offenses and thats it. And the only offense that scares me is OSU because it is multi dimensional.

As sad and bad as the O is we may very well be 9-3.

PP for the coach of the tear

9-3? The West must be THAT bad for the Hawks to achieve that record. Like, historically bad. Like, MN could win the division bad.

Weirdly, this game becomes a litmus test on how the Iowa season will play out. Iowa wins, you hang on to the hopes of a 9-3 or better season, lose it and you know it is going to unravel.

It sure does. Three games into the season and we really don't know what we have for sure. This is similar to past Iowa teams as well, I guess.

Looking at Rutgers, they have run the ball more than twice as many times as they have passed. 1 QB plays most of the snaps, but they have 1 that comes in and looks like a good runner. They average 6 yards per attempt and 10 yards per completion (taking out a long TD pass by their tight end). They seem to fall right into our strengths.

Iowa is a 7.5 point favorite with an O/U of 34.5.

I feel a double push with Iowa winning 21-13.5.

I've noticed a fair amount of optimism on the heels of the Nevada game. I'm not there yet, but I have to believe one more game will help development, getting Nico back adds options. So there is cause of just a bit of optimism.

This is where I am. We need to see what the O does against another P5 and conference team. Rutgers may not be the best but at least they are formidable and have 85 scholly's.

at this point 6-6 would be a good year based on what I’ve seen

Unless Spencer is just starting out of the gate slow this year and starts looking like a veteran QB from here on out, then yes it could be an 9-3 or 8-4 season. If on the other hand what we have seen this far ends up what we will see the rest of the season then I am afraid your likely are right. My pick of 7-5 maybe a bit optimistic even with our excellent defense.

Unfortunately Rutgers isn’t going to prove much one way or the other UNLESS we lose because of shitty offensive performance. Then 6-6 may be on the optimistic side of things.

Even though we just beat Nevada 27-0, I can’t imagine one team in our conference not winning by at least two touchdown over Nevada.

Players do improve in Kirk’s system and there is a clear history of that. Rutgers will be much better than Nevada, but let’s face it, Rutgers is lower tier in our own conference. I think we will beat them. If not then start looking forward to basketball season.

3 Elite offenses in conferences would make the meaning a bit watered down. 3 good offenses might work. MN and Wis will not be slouches.

2-1 right now
Rutgers W-No offense plus no offense = best defense wins. Might be the best game just to enjoy the
defense and punting chess match
Mich L -payback is a bitch, but not this year
Illinois W-not quite there Bret.........
OSU L- payback + way better team = ugly game- plan on raking leaves or something
NW W- bad bad team
Pur L- Charlie says hi every time he scores, Purdue has 27 injuries, but all players recover to finish
game
Wisc L- Mertz tired of having shit games, finally gets one right
Minn L- Goopher has a team this year as much as I hate to admit it
Neb W- need it to go bowling, we pull out a tight one

so, 6-6, end up in some never before heard of bowl game in late December......

Hope I am wrong

Looks like Rutgers beefed up in the off season, and bought in 4 OL via the portal.
Ciaffoni 6' 3" 265 from Colorado St
DiRenzo 6' 6" 315 from Sacred Heart
Tyler 6' 7" 330 from Louisiana Monroe
Dunlap 6' 5" 345 from Minnesota

3 are listed as starters. All four are on the two-deep.
