some thoughts:

- I was looking at the Hawkeye football roster and was surprised to see Mark Weisman is now an assistant under Chris Doyle. His 2602 career yards were some of the toughest, gutsiest rushing yards ever.
- Surprised we've never had a rusher gain 2000 yards in a single season. Someday..........
- For some reason I thought Sed Shaw's game at Wisconsin would be in the single game list? He ran so hard that day I thought he had to be on 'roids. I thought he rushed for over 200 yards that game. He was a beast.
- For being a program that likes to hang its hat on being a rushing program our records don't seem to be all that outstanding? But, hey, they are our records.......
- A lot of different Hawks on these lists that elicit lots of different thoughts.

Statman, does your list have their avg yard per carry which is just as important as total yards.

Shonn Greene was a full-time starter for only one season or he could have blown by Sedrick Shaw's record. Actually it would have been Ronnie Harmon's record had Ronnie not been a receiver his first two years.

None of this is to take anything away from Shaw. He was an exciting player on some excellent offensive teams. He had to stay ahead of Tavian Banks (who was injury prone) on the depth chart and if Michigan State's Blake Ezor could play running back in the B1G then Tim Dwight certainly could have.

several of the players on the career list shared carries with other players on the list. Iowa would have some 2000+ guys but often they shared carries.

1 Sedrick Shaw 4,156 1993 1994 1995 1996 shared with Tavian Banks
2 Ladell Betts 3,686 1998 1999 2000 2001
3 Albert Young 3,173 2004 2005 2006 2007
4 Tavian Banks 2,977 1994 1995 1996 1997
5 Akrum Wadley 2,872 2014 2015 2016 2017 shared carries with others,
6 Fred Russell 2,760 2001 2002 2003 shared with Jermelle Lewis
7 Mark Weisman 2,602 2012 2013 2014
8 Tony Stewart 2,562 1987 1988 1989 1990 shared with Nick Bell
9 Owen Gill 2,556 1981 1982 1983 1984 shared with Kevin Harmon and others?
10 Ronnie Harmon 2,271 1982 1983 1984 198 much productions yards were receiving yards YAC.

Banks and Harmon were the most exciting and dangerous. As much as I admire HF never understood why they with Dwight never got more touches. Wadley is another mystery to me. The O in 19 is missing pizzaz.

Of these guys of these lists, only Podolak, Harmon, Betts and Greene had substantive NFL careers. All these guys on these lists were good backs for the Hawks, it just goes to show how hard it is to make it in the NFL.

Here's an interesting excerpt from Harmon's Wikipedia page, at least I found it interesting:

Harmon is the only player in NFL history to average 4.5 yards per carry on 600 rushing attempts AND 10 yards per catch on 550 receptions. He is also one of only five running backs to ever gain over 10,000 all-purpose yards and have less than 20 fumbles, the other four players being Charlie Garner, Brian Westbrook, Priest Holmes and DeAngelo Williams.

Man, did he have a tough day in the '86 Rose Bowl or what?
