Rudock when

Unless Davis has a different thought process than Kirk or Ken did, JVB will get 95 percent of the snaps this fall. I think JVB has enough experience that I don't think he will really struggle, per se. Unless he completely stinks up the place and we lose five games in a row, I think Rudock rides the pine til '13. So to answer the OP question ... If we are sitting at 0-4 or 0-5 to start the season ... then yes ... we may see Rudock ... Otherwise, JVB is your man ...

Who is the Rudduck kid everyone is talking about? Is he a transfer? I haven't seen him play a down yet, but he must be unbelievable if he is going to take over for a guy that is pegged to be an all Big 10 QB this year.

Did he win a JC championship or something cause surely you wouldn't think a redshirt freshman with no playing time and one that his coaches haven't even hinted could possibly win the job, could beat out the JVB.

Geez, nice post OP.

You have to actually read the original post. I have no idea if any of our other QBs are any good, at all. All I know is that if we get to a point in this season that it becomes clear that we aren't in contention for a B1G championship (given the premise set forth in the OP), and we want to try to be in the hunt in 2013, it is a fair question to ask whether or not we start considering playing other QBs because JVB is a senior and won't be here in 2013.

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting the backups in for some snaps during the game but QB is a little different.

They don't need breaks like RBs, WRs, and defenders. Their position is designed to only happen in a small place (the pocket) at Iowa. They're not running all over the place taking hits and getting winded.

Plus if you sub in too much, even if the season has gotten away from you, a coach is sending a poor message to the SRs who have spent 4-5 years in the program and earned their playing time. Its one thing if the SR has been beaten out by a better underclassman. But to sub just for the future, not based only on performance would probably cause some issues within the team.

You make a good point. Thank you.

Just when I think a Missouriherk thread couldn't possibly get worse...This is just beyond the pale. Who thinks something this inane, nonetheless shares it with people?

Another person who didn't read the original post. It was a question, not a position on an issue.

I agree, you are probably 100% correct.

No, I actually read the post. So a guy works 5 years to earn the starting spot and is better than his back-up and gives us a better chance to win games, and you propose or suggest it may be a good thing to tank the SR player so you can be better next year. That may be the best recruiting message ever. You play whomever gives you the best chance to win whatever the record, especially when the player has earned it.

The only opportunity JR plays is if JVB gets hurt, we are winning big, losing big, or JVB has lost his confidence and JR gives us a better chance to win that game. I don't see another scenario.

You keep playing Vandy because the second goal, after the Big Ten title, is to earn a bowl bid. You need wins to do that

JVB is an all B1G QB, so I am going to say sitting him is not an option. If we do not win, it will be a function of not enough plays being made on D and the lack of a running game. JVB may just be the best QB since Brad Banks, only thing is the other QB's before him including Tate ( Who I loved) had awesome D's to make up for their mistakes. Not exactly sure why people rag on JVB so much, he makes throws not to many other QB's in the B1G can make. If he learns to feel pressure and read blitzes better he may just break the single season touchdown record. I think he will flurish in Davis' system with shorter drops and timing routes. If you watch what he did against OSU a couple of years ago, the plays being called for him were just like the system Davis will bring. This style will make good use of our talented tight ends and lack of depth at receiver. WE ARE SET AT QB.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Worth noting:

In 1998, Major Applewhite was the Big XII Offensive ROY.
In 1999, Major Applewhite was the Big XII Offensive POY (shared).
In 2000, Major Applewhite split time with Chris Simms.
In 2001, Chris Simms was the full time starter and Major Applewhite didn't play until Simms got hurt.

Maybe there isn't the precedent at Iowa under Kirk Ferentz, but there is the precedent for Greg Davis.

If the receiving corps would hold onto the ball we wouldn't be having this discussion. Granted, some of the throws were bad, no touch on the ball at times. But there have been way too many drops in too many games.

You are joking, right?

Wow! I think I remember that. I wondered if it was because of Simm's dad's influence.
