Ruddock did okay today but Beathard should get some snaps + my overall impressions

Re: Ruddock did okay today but Beathard should get some snaps + my overall impression

Will see what happens this week. Do you guys think we can keep it going this week against iowa st?

Based on what we saw from ISU's defense against UNI, yes.

It would be nice to get off to a 3-0 start

3-0 would be nice, 6-0 would be great, 9-0 would be amazing, and 13-0 would be the most memorable Hawkeye season ever.

Back to reality, KF's best seasons all have a non conference loss.

2003 and 2009 say hello lol.

I agree we would have seen Bethard if we had been up like we should have been. JR is doing OK but I also would like for him to prove he can throw the long ball. Dont think he has proven that yet.

Yip, I was thinking we lost at Arizona in 2009, but that was 2010. So basically KF 3 best years, in 2 of them we have dropped a non con game, and in 2 we didn't lose in non con.

My bad.

I think JR has done a decent job. He seems to have better touch on the shorter throws (which we throw ALOT), but jury is still out on the throws over 20 yards. Other schools are going to keep pressuring the short stuff and run game until we can prove to go over the top. How many throws did we attempt over 20 yards? three?

The biggest issue with JR and offense is the break downs in the redzone. Even when we march down the field, or someone does make a big play, does anyone have confidence we're going to score? Seems like penalties, or breakdown in reading the defense seem to happen EVERY time we get into the redzone.

I'd like to see if Beathard can break that habit.

Beathard isn't going to stop VanSloten from flinching (he's not the only one who had a crucial penalty, he's just the one I most clearly remember).

Our issues aren't at QB.

Classic example of fan blindness. Iowa has 6 TDs in 9 red zone trips this year. One FG, one missed FG, one turnover on downs when our 4th and 1 was totally blown by the refs.

66.6% TD conversion rate is 47th in the country:

What have I learned from this thread? Unless your QB is a Heisman candidate, people won't be happy. Christ guys, Jake has played really well. If we had all 22 playing at the same level, Iowa would be no where near having a loss at this point, and would likely start the season 6-0. The good news is that it seems like this team has a chance to be pretty good. When or if they start making less mistakes is the question. Just a few less mistakes this week should result in a victory...chances are there will be more in that stadium.

The play calling was awful this week. Honestly, I felt like I was watching a re run of one of last years games. It was really sad.

I agree totally, I could feel the big smothering conservative blanket being wrapped around the offense by Kirk again. I was having flashbacks of last season the entire game.

100% agreement, it was last year but he is by far NOT the problem this season. He has made a lot of great throws in tight windows that his receivers have flat out dropped. He is honestly about the only thing keeping me watching them, and I come away thinking that their are better days ahead for the Black and Gold.

Re: Ruddock did okay today but Beathard should get some snaps + my overall impression

Last year we had 2 passing plays of 40+ yards. We already have three this year. Not to mention Rudock has command of the offense and is confident in it. While it was a bad throw against NIU that did us in, the play call was just as atrocious. No matter what way you slice it, JR is not the problem. Hell, he may be the reason the offense is already much improved.

Re: Ruddock did okay today but Beathard should get some snaps + my overall impression

So you could see that while he wasn't perfect, in his second start, on the majority of his reads he started downfield and went through his progressions, rather than panicking and throwing it to the check down 80 percent of the plays? Can you also not see that his name is spelled RUDOCK on TV?

Yes just like I said in my post, I can see that. I'm confused on whether you're trying to be sarcastic or you thought I was. Or maybe you just misread my post.
