Roster Talent Evaluation

The funny thing is your assessment is not unlike my assessment of his ability. I said he is a decent player and compared him to an Al Nolen type of player on a decent team. I think your assessment is reasonable because it is observation that is not far from the reality indicated by his stats. There are many reasonable opinions but there are also unreasonable ones such as the blanket statements I was referring to when people claim "he's great and don't dispute it" and offer no stats or benchmark comparables. Statistics may not give the full picture all the time, but they are a good start for making predictions and claims.

I knew all along our opinions on him were much the same, although I think he is a bit better than what you were thinking. I just was making a point about everyone thinks their opinions are reasonable....I know I sure do! ;)

I also said in another thread that I apologize because my posts often unintentionally sound arrogant and condescending from time to time. So I suppose the comment "reasonable" fits that category. Don't take it to heart though. :)

I don't know about options. I do know that we do not have many good options. The sooner this roster is turned over the better save for a couple of players.

I have to agree with the original post. Cartwright is a legit Big10 starting PG. Gatens would probably compete for a starting position but I think he is better as a sixth man. Only thing I disagree about is McCabe. I think he could be a good sixth man or eventually a starter. I know a lot of people don't seem to like his play but he's tough and seems to give it all every play.

I will second that. You don't lead the B1G in assists and not have the skills to start! McCabe has a lot of potential. Although he needs to get rid his Jacob Jakes mentality. You see flashes of it every game he plays.

Then throw in May. If he can start...err... learn to go to his non-dominate side, then he is a starter. I think he lost his shot, when he lost his confidence (he was shooting over 40% from the 3pt line for a period this season). That confidence was lost when teams figured out all you have to do is stop him going right and he is stopped cold. Every scouting report said that. That frustrated May bigtime.
If he can develop going left, he will be a solid starter. This summer is huge for Eric and his development. Go left young man...

Marble has potential. He will improve. How much??? We will see by the B1G season this coming winter. Keep in mind he is still growing, too. That hinders development.

I like our roster. It needs to develop, and it will. The added depth from the 2011 class will move this team forward. Fran knows what he is doing.
