Rodney Coe

He'd be a good get, and Iowa would be good for him, if he wants to be prepared for the NFL.

If he wants to play RB, he'd be smart to come to Iowa and play in a pro-style system. Arkansas runs a spread offense and doesn't utilize the RB even remotely as much as Iowa.

sucks that he said playing time is an issue and he'll look at how many rb's there are...we have all but 2 rb's that are fr or sophs lol

Is he open to playing linebacker? That's a spot where he could get a lot of PT, and also develop for the next level.

I think that the coaches are more than happy to give Coe a legit shot at RB. However, if he ends up faring better at LB ... then I'm sure that they wouldn't cry about that either.

My impression is that the very fact that Miller intends to enroll early might allow for the possibility that Iowa lands Miller before Coe even announces in commitment. However, my guess is that the Iowa coaches would continue to recruit Coe ... and I think that we still have a VERY good shot of landing him.

Thus, I don't think that it's impossible that we could end up landing Gordon, Miller, AND Coe. Don't get me wrong ... it's not a lock ... however, I am pretty sure that we'll land AT LEAST 2 of them!

Pretty cool, eh?

Yet Arkansas got 3 backs who all played together on the same team in the NFL (Hillis, McFadden, F. Jones).

Coe made it very clear in the article he's looking at playing 1 position, and it's not LB. It'd be great to get him in the fold, but that could be a very deep depth chart going into next year, as it seems Coe's physically ready now and if Miller would pick IA and enroll early, there's a decent chance he'd be ready to go next fall also. Of course the Angry IA RB Hating God has a way of taking care of depth chart issues.

Petrino is clearly a pass-happy coach. But don't forget how impressive Michael Bush was his junior year before getting injured his senior year. In 2005 he had 1143 yards averaging 5.6 YPC and 23 TDs while spliting carries as a Junior. Oh yeah, how big was Bush, 6'2" 245lbs. Those were Louisville's best offensive output years and the power running theat is what got them over the top. So I can see why Arkansas is hard after Coe, they are trying to recreate the 2005 style Louisville offense.

But obviously he would be a nice get for Iowa. I do think he would be a split-carry back. Iowa's offense is based on one cut zone blocking, big backs' cuts really slow down as carries add up. Wisconson pulls linemen on every play, so big guys are better in their system by getting down hill from the start.

Bush hasn't done much in the NFL, and neither have guys like Stripling, Shelton. If Coe wants to be an NFL back, he's better off to go to a school that runs a pro-style offense.

I don't know if that comparison is exactly fair considering Bush had a serious injury that required two surgeries and a steel rod inserted into his lower leg. He was in Kiper's top ten before that injury. He didn't play football for 23 months. And really, there are few backs who have staggering stats in the pros now with the multiple back philosophy. And considering he plays in Oakland and is the backup to a former 4th overall pick, the stats are about right. And Iowa isn't exactly a RB factory. I'm not trying to bash my Hawkeyes, I just see why Coe Might choose Arkansas over Iowa.
