Rob’s Trip to NYC

No media hospitality room in hotel. That's a first for me in 21 years of covering bowls. Oh well, paid $10 for two bottles of water and a small trail mix at the local Walgreen's. Almost time to head out to dinner. Old school Italian place where there was mob hit back in the day.
Where Michael took out Solazzo and that dirty cop?

Made it to the hotel. Everything was going smoothly until I found out while riding the E train that it following the F Train route during the holidays. Ended up having to walk about 8 blocks. They’re long around here. Saw a guy on the train that looked like Otis Nixon talking to himself. Taking train to dinner for entertainment value. That and it’s $3 instead of $20 for a cab.
Ha. I was in Philadelphia's airport yesterday and thought I saw Michael Bennett of the Seahawks sitting by himself texting/eating. Could tell he was a big guy. I wasn't sure if it was him so I didn't bother him. He never got up while I walked past and didn't hear him speak. He has a pretty distinct voice if I could have heard him talk I'd have been more sure. People that you see on TV all the time can look different in person so for various reasons I wasn't going to bother him but I'd say I'm 80% sure that was him. What he was doing in Philly on the 26th by himself is anyones guess..

Gonna be so funny when the CHUDs get Rob and we finally get a real writer to cover Hawkeye recruiting.

That turned into a late night. Dinner at John's of 12th Street was incredible. Highly recommend next time you're in town for the Pinstripe Bowl. Ended up at some bar named Foxy something with a group of well-known Iowa media members. We made it until two. A few of the boys drank some really expensive bourbon. I stuck to beer being as I was working on being awake for about 24 straight hours. I could share some of the stories told but then I'd have to kill you guys. We did come up with a lengthy list of guys we think could transfer by the end of the next semester. Sorry, cant share that either.

Anyway, need to get myself together here. Going to walk around town a bit before heading up the stadium. Looks like around 24 degrees and windy for the game. Excellent bowl location.

If it has red-checkered tablecloths and uses old Chianti bottles as candle-holders, keep your head low. Just sayin'

Whoa, bud, pump the brakes. Next time you go out with a group of hitters like that let us know so we can warn our family members in NY to wear their galoshes and waders so as not ruin their shoes and trousers should they step in a puddle.

Pretty good media meal at the stadium. Press box is open air and cold. I'll be shooting photos on the field anyway, so I'd be cold no matter what.

Spent the early day walking around NYC. Went by Rockefeller Center, Central Park, The Plaza hotel from Home Alone 2 fame. Saw a guy almost get nailed by a bike in the crosswalk, which brought with it some yelling and salty language. No blows. It's the holidays.
