I really hope he can find a groove and play like he should be playing. He was amazing to watch with the Hawks. From article:

“I’m just here to work on my skill, try to get better every day and do what I can do to help the team,†he said.

“It’s just the choice that was made,†Gallery said of his decision to come to New England. “It seems like a long time ago and, like I said, I’m just ready to get this camp rolling and get into the season.â€

Gallery entered the league as a tackle and could still play the position in a pinch, if not effectively. His most success has come at guard, and the Patriots have worked him on both the left and right side

“Wherever they put me, I’m taking those snaps,†he said.

While it’s still early, it’s been a ragged start as Gallery, who turned 32 Thursday, has frequently been overpowered. That’s never a good thing, but particularly for someone of his size.

I stood next to Gallery while checking in to golf at The Legacy in Des Moines back in July. Dude looked in great shape. Hope he gets 4-5 good years in at NE before he hangs it up. He was there for a party another Iowa guy was throwing.

Let me play devil's advocate for a second here, fellas....
What if, and that's just an if because this is a hypothetical question posed on a message board, but what if Bob Gallery actually was and is a bust?
Is it possible, or are we all sooooo drunk on Hawkeye koolaid that we will continue to make excuses and rationalizations for his crappy play and underwhelming performance for all of eternity?
Hawk fans constantly claim this guy is awesome, and then follow that assertion with a bunch of ifs and buts because they (we?) know he's never displayed any awesomeness in teh League.

I absolutely agree. The amount of hero worship by grown men never ceases to astound me.

Look, I love the Hawks....always have and always will. And I always cheer for players that make the next step into professional ball. But that doesn't mean I check my brain or common sense at the door. Gallery, at best, has been a servicable lineman. There are plenty of olinemen that dominated in college and couldn't quite match that level of domination in the league. Gallery happens to be one of them. He's an average lineman that, in hindsight, was drafted way too high. It's that simple. He wouldn't have been a superstar if he'd have been drafted by some other team. Being drafted by, say, the Steelers wouldn't have all of a sudden made him stop looking silly trying to block a speed rusher at left tackle.

I wish him the best at New England, but from the sounds of it, it looks like his playing days are probably over.

This should be a sticky at the top of the board, and the worst koolaid drinkers--and there are way too many among us--should be forced to read & recite it weekly.
Great post, Rico. :)
