Rob How many current players were committed to other teams?

Pretty sure King and Jewell were and I imagine quite a few others? Is that consistent with Ferentz "policy" in recruiting? Just thought I would check to see what others thought

The answer the apologists will give is something along the lines of:
-If the kid is currently looking at other schools, Iowa will pursue. If the kid is currently locked into one school, Iowa will move along.

Which, of course, answers nothing, and avoids a direct answer.
So basically I smell hypocrisy.

What's more concerning than the policy, to me anyway, is our lack of communication with recruits post-verbal.

give it a rest already
I don't quite agree with the give it a rest! KF is getting paid BIG BIG money to head this program. There has been a glaring flaw brought to the forefront and I think it needs to be fixed. We've always been told it's Iowa.......nobody wants to come to Iowa! I don't think that's the case at all and shoving it under the rug isn't going to make it go away. Rant over. I'm moving on.

I agree, why is KF so butt tight about this. People take jobs all the time and later they start looking for other jobs even on their current employer's time. That is the real world. KF says he is preparing young men for the real world so treat them that way. Trust them.

The policy should be work hard, get the verbal commitment, keep working the lines of communication telling them how well they did in their last high school game, and try to get them to sign the paper and enroll in school. If a verbal commit wants to visit another campus dont make that a reason to take away your offer.

LOL, and in the "real world" people looking for other jobs on their employers time are shown the door. That is the real world.

Higdon visited Michigan and his offer wasn't pulled. What if instead of letting him visit Michigan KF tells him if he steps foot on Michigan campus his offer is gone? Maybe Higdon is a Hawk right now.

Iowa doesn't pull offers if a kids visits another school. Higdon didn't get his pulled. Eno didn't get his offer pulled when he visited Mizzu.

the phrase "on their employer's time" destroys the analogy. We're not talking about a player leaving an Iowa practice, sneaking away from an official campus visit to secretly meet with another coach or the like. Recruits aren't "employees" (to extend the analogy) until they sign a NLOI and step on campus. They're prospective employees.

In the real world, prospective employees do listen to other competing offers before accepting and starting a job. Not only is that common...it's expected when you're top talent. That's much closer to what we're talking about here...not a guy sneaking into the lobby while he's on the clock, to call to a competitor about a job.

yes, we need to open yet another thread after a dozen threads already bitching about this.

I agree with drummer. Also, most people don't search on the company's dime either. They will do so on their own time. I manage people as part of my job and part of my responsibility is to retain talent. If I have a number of folks quit for a similar opportunity at a competing company, my boss would be concerned with me. That's my real world.

I was using exaggeration and hyperbole as the situation I mentioned is much worse than a verbal commit taking another visit but it happens all the time.

Or if you're still so butt hurt by it that you feel another useless thread is necessary, then maybe you should visit your local pharmacy for some salve.
I don't recall talking nasty to you. I guess that makes you better poster. I now understand why you won't just scroll on by. Butt hurt ? Really? Pharmacy? You're so clever.

You do realize that the #2 running back for Michigan today was flipped after making a verbal commit to Iowa, right?

OK one of us will pass it on to Kirk that you are really upset.

Here is what I want to know... how does the message board with the best admins end up with the absolute worst posters? I mean, holy crap, this message board is just a bunch of angry 40 year olds yelling about Ferentz like little babies.
