Rittenberg: Big Ten awards race update: Week 10

Clayborn is getting quite a bit of attention. I think Ballard is having a monster year because of it. Sash has had a good year, just nothing to really stand out to people that dont watch every Iowa game.

Sash is 1 of 10 semifinalists for the Thorpe Award. Neither he nor Chekwa made Adam's list.

Clayborn is 1 of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award.

3 DL and 2 LBs on his list. No DBs.

It's his opinion, and I honestly can't argue, because I haven't watched any of the Illinois, OSU, Purdue games honestly. He has probably seen more so maybe he's seen more from them I don't know. But like Jon said Sash is having a good year, but he isn't blowing the world away and Clayborn is just getting double teamed or chipped all the time opening things up for the other DL.

Just for some perspective. MSU's LT #59 had 4 penalties called against him. 2 false starts and 2 holding. All four times AC was lined up across from him.

Don't tell me that AC isn't impacting games this year. His traditional numbers might be down but what that is because of the special attention teams are paying him this year.

Nobody is arguing that, read my first post, but penalties don't get you awards, stats do, and he's not getting stats because of the attention paid to him.

I don't think anyone that knows anything about football would say he is not impacting games. Unfortunately awards aren't based on forced penalties or taking double teams to free up other guys. He will get his ultimate award in April of next year.
