Rising star in Joshua Jackson?

He looked like he belonged out there and Saturday will be one of his toughest assignments of the year. Wonder if last week's late performance by Iowa's backup CB's had anything to do with his shot. He made the most of it, regardless.

He played last week some as well when Iowa used the 6 DB alignment. Appears to have moved ahead of Draper. Definitely looks like he belongs. Not afraid to tackle either.

i think he was in there on dime coverage, but not sure. I don't believe he was playing in place of lomax, who is a starter. was flemming on the field at the same time as Jackson? or did iowa play both nickel and dime coverage? flemming being nickel, jackson being dime? not sure - all i do know is that when jackson was in, he was covering their NFL WR....... ;)

Lomax, Taylor (the two safeties), King and Mabin didn't leave the field (and won't, unless they get hurt). Fleming and Jackson were the two extra DB's on 3rd and longs when Iowa went to the Raider package. Once Ott went out, looked like we used Meier, Nelson, Nieman, Jewell and Fisher to go with the 6 DB's. Good to see new guys like Jackson getting time.

You're probably looking on Hawkeyesports.com which is the university's official site and probably the worst site to actually find accurate information regarding Iowa's roster. Jackson will still be listed as a WR until sometime in 2016. Parker Hesse has been a DE since spring yet is still listed as LB. Last year Jay Scheel is in the actual team photo wearing his current #3 but was listed the entire year at #86.

Best bet is to go to rivals.com. They usually have an updated depth chart and roster.

Back to on the field, the kid looks like he belongs out there. Good size and looked to be keeping up with ISU's WRs decently.

So if one is looking for a cushy job look into webmaster @ Iowa.

Iowa came out in both nickel and dime. IIRC, resulting in two ISU timeouts due to confusion. Passing situations where other teams would normally try to put a play on a LB. Broke the huddle, Iowa had nickel/dme two separate times. Two timeouts. Trying to remember what we were in on the face guarding call that nullified the interception. Anyone know? Is there anybody out there? Bueller? Bueller?

i believe that face guading p.i. was against a linebacker....can't name a name - just recall thinking that our LB was stride for stride with him - I believe it was Mabin who made the interception.

I don't understand that call. The ISU receiver could have changed direction, slowed down, got to the ball, if there was a way he actually could have gotten to it. Which is what the rule is supposed to be. Not for a ball 6 yards away. I think they called that on the inside receiver's defender. I'd like to see a replay of that. Hardly do I get vocal at games, but I dropped several f bombs in an ISU donor section on that one. I remember sitting down, and my buddy asked me if I realized everyone was quiet except me. I had no idea what he was talking about. He told me I quieted the entire section and they were staring at me. Laffy. Not so laffy is the fact I had several years of pent up frustration about Iowa football that I somewhat relieved myself of with my outburst.

It was a LB..I remember now..Niemann I think

i too think it was niemann - but i was unsure, so just said 'linebacker'. but i believe you are correct - thank you - i think one positive on this team is going to be the LB play - i think they can all fly and will know their jobs.

yeah, that call was iffy, for sure. the player wasn't coming for the ball and the faceguarding was pretty light and definitely away from the ball.

Haha. I had my moment against Illinois State in the first quarter. One of Iowa's LBs whiffed on Roberson on 3rd down and he picked up the first. I just let loose for about 10 seconds and I never do that. It was just the frustration after the past few seasons letting loose. Not my finest moment.

Iowa using dime coverage!?!? I'm glad that we are starting to play like a modern football team! Not really a fan of staying in the 4-3 on 3rd and long. But yes, always fun to see freshman step up in big games.

This is correct Iowa ran the raider package quite a bit in this game. The weird thing about it that I noticed is that King and Mabin play on the same side of the field; while Flemming and Jackson are on the opposite side. It's no surprise really that Flemming and Jackson see the majority of the throws when in this package.

It was BN who is in coverage. We were in our base defense, and Lazzard lined up in the slot; which is the LEO's cover. Iowa State ran the double reverse pass, and Lazzard danced around a little bit before taking off on a fly route. It's a tough penalty to take, because the interception happens pretty close to when the interference happens.; But I guess correct call.

Jackson was one of the DBs who whiffed on Illinois State second TD. He missed tackle thenboth backup safeties missed too.

He definitely played much better against Iowa State. I think Draper was hurt and didn't play so Jackson stepped up big time. Hopefully he can continue to play like that. He moved from WR to CB after Truitt injuted and the other DB transferred so he hasn't been playing CB all that long.

You are correct. He was playing WR in the spring and actually dropped a deep ball in one of the scrimmages. They moved him back to DB after the transfers. He played well...hopefully will provide some depth at that position.
