RIP Princess Lacey

That is sad. I remember watching The Journey on BTN last year where they profiled Adreian Payne and this little girl. I noticed her at the conference championship too and thinking she looked so fragile at that time.

Despite what many of us feel about the MSU program my heart goes out to that program as well as Lacey's family. There was such an incredible bond between her and the program it goes beyond saying how devastated they have to be. It's incredible what impact Payne and the MSU team had on her and equally amazing the effect she had on the team and those that knew her. For someone taken so early she has touched a number of lives and will surely be missed.

There were a lot of comments after that article, and the one's that always get me the most are the one's that suggest we try as people to treat each other with love and respect....sometimes that gets lost is translation. We are just here to live our lives and it's what we do with it that make people remember us for who we are and the kind of person we've become. Sad story indeed, and a huge loss for the family and the MSU Spartans...Let's all try and keep that in perspective the next time we're faced with some sort of distraction or loss.....

Agreed, as a society we tend to get caught up in all the negatives going on in the world as well as the world of sports. It's great to see something like this that puts what's important back into perspective and offers a feel good story at the same time. There are a number of things I'd like to forget, and eventually will forget, but the genuine smiles on the face of Lacey and Adrien definitely makes you realize what's important. To many of us, athletes are just a source of entertainment and "the enemy" when on the other team, but we tend to forget that they are so much more to others. It really put makes you step back and look at what really matters and not just what we see or hear on the field.

I haven't smiled a lot these past few months but when I first saw that story about her and Payne it put a huge smile on my face. What an incredible young lady and God bless Adrien Payne for making her life a little brighter.

Very sad, way too young like so many others. CBS did a nice job of spotlighting her without running it into the ground.

Ugg... so freaking sad. I am glad Payne and the MSU team brought some very happy moments to her life.

Very sad. I can't even imagine what her parents went through. Saying goodbye to anyone is so difficult. Saying goodbye to your own child ... unimagineable. A young life taken way too soon ...

Definitely my second favorite feature in the entire Journey series (behind Chris Street). In hindsight, I really wish MSU had won the title. That would have been really neat for Payne and Lacey to share that right near the end.

Made me tear up seeing this. Cancer sucks. Lost my dad to it. So sorry to see this little girl go so young. RIP Lacey.

This is why I was a fan of Payne and even when Iowa played MSU I had a hard time rooting against him. The fact that a big time college basketball player, who will soon be playing in the NBA, took this little girl under his wings and gave her the best possible gift anyone could ever imagine with his friendship is truly amazing. Most people would have done a nice gesture and walked away not wanting to get involved knowing the circumstances, but Payne went all in even though he knew her time was numbered. When I first seen the story on The Journey I was skeptical at first wondering if this just made a good story, but Payne kept reaching out to her. It is heart wrenching to know that Lacey is one of many children that go through this.

I will always be a fan of Payne.

Nice sentiments SSK, and I believe most people like Payne (and there's a bunch) would do exactly what he did, not only was he a part of Lacey's family, but she became part of his & MSU's....I truly commend people who go out of their way to try and make someone else's life a little easier to deal with when faced with a terrible situation like cancer.....How many of us have ever been faced with something like this in our own community? Probably not many, but my point is, if we were or are sometime down the road, we need to step up to the plate, befriend them and their family, so that we might somehow make a difference....God Speed Lacey & Family, and most of all Adrien....
