If a guy were to fly from denver to florida, stay cheap for only a day or two and catch a bowl game, how much on the cheap for two?
I told het last year i was going. If she cant get time off, my budget goes way up for one:)

Hard to say. This year the Friday night before the Ohio State game, I checked flights from Ohare to Columbus. Wife and kid were out of town. I really had no intention of going was just curious. Got a dirt cheap flight round trip on gameday and the times matched up where it would work. Flew in and out same day, ticket, a few beers before the game short cab ride since the airport is fairly close to the shoe. 200 bucks for everything. I realize this doesnt help you, but figured Id share the story.

WHICH bowl game in Florida? In a 2-up, 8-4 season, we COULD end up in Tampa. In 1-up 8-4 season, we may not be in Florida. In a 2-up 7-5, or "less", probably Jacksonville.

Both are fun towns, but if the wind comes from the Northeast, Jax smells like death. Literally. In any case, Jax will be a tad cooler.

Thanks, that helps. Just wondering if the wife and i could go for around 2g's. You make that sound possible.

I don't spend even close to that much money on just the bowl aspects of a bowl trip. I got my hotel on the beach just North of Tampa for $75 a night for the last Outback. I spent about that much in Orlando for Cap One. Florida has deals to be had. Also, you can save some bank Flying into Jacksonville. But it's a bit of a drive down to Tampa or Orlando. However, you want a car in Florida, so that expense isn't really the issue.

Florida also has cheap flights. Now, booking at the right time and on the right day can be helpful.

olddude - you've got to have your plans ready and be on here constantly the day that bowls are getting announced. I can't overstate how much pent up demand there is for an Iowa bowl game this year and so if I were you, I'd have 5 computers running with browsers constantly pulling and holding tickets to ANYWHERE Iowa might land. Then, you consummate the deal as soon as the bowl is announced. If you wait until five minutes after the announcement, the plane tickets will triple or quadruple in price if you are flying out of Denver because of how huge the fanbase is out there. Expect similar, rapid price jumps for the motels near the city where the bowl game will be held so don't delay on those either.

You might be better off PMing Jon and figuring out where he is going to take his charter from and just buying a Denver to there ticket now and then catching his charter.

This is outstanding advise. OldDude, listen to OK4Prez. ;-)

This is sound advice. If Iowa lands in the Heart of Dallas Bowl, forget it, we'll all be priced out

If the budget is that tight, you are better off splurging on a new 60' flat screen and imported beer.

I go to Florida several times a winter, and I'm not sure I spend that much for all of my time combined down there. If you put some time and planning in to it, you should be able to do it for well under 1/2 of your estimate. Well under. Buy the plane tickets now, but the $25 trip cancel thing they sell. If you don't go, cancel and pay their fee. I just booked to LV for Super Bowl weekend for $85. In October, 5 months out.

I am Old Dude. Some people elsewhere figured this out already. Notice how we're never online at he same time?

Thanks for the advice. I dont like to fly and have never attended a bowl, so i had no idea of the cost. I was always waiting to go to the RB.

You and me both, brother. But I fear that is gonna be a tough one for us to get to.
when i was a kid watching with my dad, it was the only bowl. Now it is almost sad, osu, wisky and msu are going for the nt and we are hoping for the RB. But the smell of roses is the spring board.

No way you can fly from Denver to anywhere in Florida during bowl season, attend the bowl game, and secure a halfway decent hotel for 2 nights plus transportation for "well under" $1000. That is ludicrous! Also, no way this dude booked a round trip ticket with all fees and taxes for $85 to LV.
