Rick Kaczenski - Head Coach Someday?

Is Rick Kaczenski poised to be a head coach someday? To be honest, I don't know much about the coach but that he seems to be an integral component in the success of Iowa football.

We always refer "Hayden Fry Coaching Tree" & the number of guys that went on to be head coaches & the success they had. In looking at KF's staff, well, Norm is going to retire some day. I'm not sure what aspirations KOK has, but, I feel he is comfortable in the OC role with no intentions of being a head coach.

Rick Kaczenski is young enough & I just have a feeling he is going to get a shot someday. For some reason, it just seems he is at the right place & age & seems to have what he needs to go on the endeavor if he wishes at some point.

I just don't see many young coaches on staff that could end up a HC someday, but, I'll be the first to admit I don't know the entire staff so could be missing some.

I've been thinking the same thing about Kaz. I just hope we can hang onto him long enough as an assistant. If KF sticks around another 6 or 7 years, I think Kaz will be gone unless he knows he's got the HC job waiting for him.

Needs to be a coordinator first you would think. Wonder if he'd be a candidate when Norm gets tired of the rat race.

I think that would be Iowa's ultimate plan to sustain consistency which is what KF always drives for. I think this will happen unless he hops on a chance somewhere else prior to Norm's retirement.

Um, Phil Parker and Wilson run the D when Norm is gone. Really think KF is going to jump Kacs over either of them?

This, I think Kaczenski is a great coach and will be a great DC/HC but it won't be with Iowa at least anytime soon.

Coach K is definitely viewed as one of the young up-and-comers. However, he's still in the process of refining his craft.

Frankly, I'll be curious as to what his next step will be. He has experience on both sides of the ball ... so he could end up being EITHER an OC or DC down the line. Heck, he could even be a head coach at a smaller school initially and then eventually move up the ranks.

I, too, have wondered the same thing about Coach K. I know he is intense but I have never really heard much about him outside of Iowa ... I assume he is pretty well respected in the football coaching world. One thing is for sure, it will be interesting to see who takes Norm's spot when he does decide to hang it up ...
