Revisiting a post from last week. Is the O-line better?

We talked about it last week.
I am kinda unchanged, but hopefull.
They are better, because they have played 9 games now.

But, I think Purdue's defense might be as bad as Northwestern's.

It seams to me like they pull more effectively and go forward rather than backward after the snap. But, I don't know crap about this kind of thing so I can't say anything subjectively about them.

Objectively, they are better. But, against poor defenses. But, that 200 yards from Johnson? Of course, he earned them. But, I also believe an o-line contributes when someone gets 200.

Help me out here. I never played. I can really only tell if someone is good like I can only tell when it's raining. Because there's rain on my windshield and I have to turn the wipers on.

The entire defense is good. Tory Taylor is good. Johnson looks very promising.

Definitely think they are playing better. I think Connor Colby will be an outstanding lineman some day but he was not cutting it at right tackle. Jack Plumb has played better out there and Colby is better on the inside. Couple that with improvements along the rest of the line and we are starting to jell a little.

I do find it curious when we beat another team, all of a sudden that team isn't any good in some people's eyes. I'm paraphrasing here but you get my point. Not calling you out but I have to disagree. Northwestern held OSU to 21 points today. Purdue had a pretty decent defense, at least rankings-wise coming in to today. We did struggle mightily against the three top-ten defenses we played but I also think that we've improved.

Not worried. It's a messageboard. Wouldn't be here if I couldn't handle someone disagreeing with me. HAH! So...all good. Hell, it's a messagrboard. I wouldn't be here if I couldn't handle someone calling me a repulsive poltroon who's mother wears combat boots....with moo moos made from Costco sized potato sacks.

But I still stand by the fact that Nebraska and Rutgers put up numbers against Purdue. I "predicted" a win for today. But then backed out. I always leave myself an out.

I think Purdue has quite good offense, albeit not very dynamic. Which will keep them in most games. Except against a thirsty Phil Parker defense that is probably the most complete defense he's ever helmed.

I think the Iowa offense is better. How much better, I think is still open for debate.

Here is what I like about the OL performance:

K. Johnson had 2 explosive plays in the run game (75 and 44 yds: 119 yards total).

In his other 20 carries, he had 81 yards. Meaning, even aside from the explosive plays, Iowa was averaging 4 ypc. Staying ahead of the chains, moving forward.

Two things have happened.

1) They seemed to have figured out the correct assignments on the o-line and they have jelled a bit and are better. This is helping the run game which has a huge impact on Iowa's offense with play action.

2) Iowa played some highly ranked teams with some very good defenses to start the season. This has played into Iowa's O-line getting better playing them. Now they are going against some average or not so great defenses so are looking better.

My $.02.
