Regardless of how this ends, Bullock has impressed me

He did, and that's why Jon is the one I questioned, but your young *** felt the need to jump in.

Because Jon didn't say Bullock looked like a carbon copy. He also said he couldn't put his finger on it, and took a stab, completely forgetting about Young.

I've said it for a long time. Castillo isn't unplayable. He's not THAT bad. Is he great? No. But he's serviceable against many college receivers.

Definitely. And his staying on that coverage shows his improvement from his early years. Two seasons ago he might have abandoned coverage. Today he was step-for-step with the receiver and in great position to make the play.

Also agree. Why have we completely abandoned CJ????

We haven't. He had 3 receptions, one drop, and was otherwise not open, overthrown, Vandy was being sacked or pressured, or WRs were more open.

IMHO we'll see more CJ touches as the play of both CJ and the OL improves.

I have no answers for the passing game other than there is a lot of inexperience out there and some WR's are not reading the same reads JVB is reading...new offensive nuance that is troublesome.

You mentioned trouble with pass protection. We had more than our share of "look out" blocks. A positive...I enjoyed seeing the OL getting out and pulling and Bullock's ability to remain patient and wait for blocks.

Bullock was a workhorse today and was the difference maker. He was the real deal today at RB and I'm excited to his career develop further.

The kid earned MVP honors no doubt. He was the Iowa offense today.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this observation, because it's not that big of a deal.

Anyway, after watching about 6 college games, I'm really surprised with how many players are still losing their helmets. Generally, there's no excuse for this.

He said Tavian without the jets. Obviously, Tavian wouldn't have been Tavian without the speed. But that description perfectly fit AY.

AY had a lot of burst before the leg injuries. I just don't see the comparison there.

By the way, on Bullock's TD run.... that would have been about a 5 yard gain for Coker.

He wasn't a contributor with that burst, thanks to the injuries. Everything Young did, he did post-injury. So it's a fair comparison.

I was impressed with his patience when patience was needed and his ability to hit the hole quickly when needed - when the O-line opened a hole quickly, that is.

I was expecting Iowa to be more of a RB by committee to start the year. However, I was very happy to see him put away the game, and didn't realize how well he ran all day until I saw the stat line. I think he will be the help Iowa open up the pass all year by forcing defenses to honor the run in play action.

I agree, we will see a lot more passes to CJ as the season progresses.

Still don't see it, AY was a much stronger runner than Bullock...and not knocking Bullock at all as I've been expecting him to do well this season, just not break a lot of tackles. Just a different perspective I guess on how we remember AY.

I think what everyone forgot about Bullock is that he was going to see the field a lot last year as a true freshman, started in game 1 last year...ahead of KMM in the slot. Only reason he wasn't on the field was moving positions consistently out of need.

Damon played tough out there today. Better burst than Coker. Just need to keep him upright and healthy now. Really need to figure out how to pick up a blitz, both JVB and the o-line.
