Refs (Hightower) were bad as usual

Not going to blame the loss on the refs but how many missed traveling calls did they have in the first half? Plenty of fouls that didn't get called as well. As usual, very disappointed with Hightower and his crew.

Hightower's act gets old fast. He was getting ready to toss the opening tip and pulled the ball away because the players were getting ready to time their jumps early. He thinks the game is a show for him and not the players.

Anybody else remember either in 2004 or 2005 at Carver when Hightower made a few terrible calls and the students started chanting "**** YOU EDDIE!" clap clap clap clap clap..."**** YOU EDDIE!" clap clap clap clap clap....Wasnt the greatest show of class but it was pretty funny.

Hightower should have retired more than a decade ago. He needs to give the kids of Edwardsville his full, undivided attention.

Before the game the Illinois fan sitting behind me said "Oh no, we've got Hightower."

After a bad call by one of the other officials, a fan yelled at him (and you could hear him loud and clear) "Stop trying to be like Hightower".

Funny.

McCabe was set for about 2 seconds, gets run over and called for the block.
McCamey got away with 2 walks, as did one of Illinois' bigs.

Last night's officiating wasn't horrible (by Hightower standards), but some walks early on that weren't called were really frustrating. Illini got away with 3 or 4 of them.

The refs cost Iowa the game. If they dont call the Intentional Foul, May goes down and dunks instead of having to earn them at the FT line. Then Iowa would have only been down by 6. ;)

The thing with Hightower is that he thinks he has to make the game all about him. In a well officiated game, the ref's should almost disappear. You never see that when he is doing a game.

I only remember one call in particular...when McCabe was called for a block on McCamie. He was about as "set" as you could be and McCamie knocked him over.

If there is a more "subjective" call in all of sports than the Block/charge, I'd like to know what it is.

Disagree. Zach was moving into him

Constant harping on officials does get old.
I don't disagree. If the officials would make correct calls, it'd be easier to not harp on them.

Not calling a travel irritates me. When a pivot foot is picked up or a guy takes 3 steps, it just has to be called. It's an unfair competitive advantage and is illegal in the game.

Marble got away with one when he was floored by that screen. He was laid out, but it was a legal screen by Tisdale.

There are a lot of examples.

I don't expect officials to get them all, it's just too fast of game for that to happen. But the obvious ones have to be called.

1) The officiating was not as bad as the last game with tech.
2) Officiating BBall is hard but no big ten fan is a huge fan of Hightower
3) If the calls were better what would we have done hit shots from the Charity Stripe?

This team is struggling at the line. As any fan of BBall knows you have to have better percentages at the line then the hawks do to stay in and win games. Look at the intentional on may. Missed both shots and coughed up the ball after. I have faith they will work out the line issues.

Go Hawks...at least we are complaining about officiating and not the boring style of play or lack of hustle or passion.

Best point of the thread.

Then again, the calls like the travels are just a change of possession/turnover. It would have given Iowa more possessions.

Again, though, great point.

I agree with you the no call on traveling drives me up the wall. You can't call it here or there you have to call it every time. Can become an unfair advantage at key points in the game.
