Refs (Hightower) were bad as usual

The thing with Hightower is that he thinks he has to make the game all about him. In a well officiated game, the ref's should almost disappear. You never see that when he is doing a game.

I agree... why is it that it doesn't take long for Hightower to be involved with questionable calls? Why is it that every team in the Big Ten doesn't want their games to involve him? The act is getting very old.

Another thing... McCamey from IL palms the ball all game and no call. That is a huge advantage that allows him to do so much more than other point guards. He is good, but you got to call that. Watch it... just go to almost any Illini offensive play. Perhaps the defender on him needs to just make the carry motion to point this out?

Again, I don't think the game was decided by the officials as much as it was our inability to defend the 3 and hit our FTs but at the same time the officials didn't help our cause. There were several traveling calls in the first 10 minutes that never got called. It was during this time that Illini went on a tear and went up by 10. If they get called it's a different ball game.

McCabes blocking foul was not a block.

In the 2nd half Basabe got pushed from behind when he went to jump and it cleared him out of the play, the Illini player (who pushed him) grabbed the ball for an easy put back.

We got a gift when they called the 5th on their big because that was about as clean of a pick as they come and Marble walked with it and didn't get called. The difference is our calls didn't really come at key moments and theirs did.

Again, nothing that really changed the overall outcome because Illinois is deeper, taller and more athletic at pretty much every position and should have won the game.

Not going to blame the loss on the refs but how many missed traveling calls did they have in the first half? Plenty of fouls that didn't get called as well. As usual, very disappointed with Hightower and his crew.

For once, and this is very rare when Hightower is involved, I had no issues with the refs. The refs had no impact on how the game turned out, Iowa's defense, or lack therof, did. The intentional call on May was correct when a lot of officials would not call it. The refs are going to miss calls, that is the way it is.

After watching the replay, it was a block. McCamey was in as close to off the ground if not off the ground before McCabe was set. Believe me, I wanted it to be a charge, but it was certainly a block. When the charge-happy refs of today's age actually call a block, it is shocking.
Did you think that McCabe's charge was a charge?

Constant harping on officials does get old.

Amen, I am pretty sure there has been a thread about the refs after every loss this year. Refs will never be perfect and they screw the other team over just as much as they screw Iowa over. Basketball is by far and away the most difficult sport to ref so there will always be a lot of human error.

I agree that it was a blocking foul on McCabe. The rule is that the defensive player must be set before the offensive player leaves the floor.
Looking at the replay, it appears that McCamey had left the floor before McCabe became set. I think the refs got it right.

The thing that amazes me is the continual bitchin' about the refs. Very few replays on TV show that the ref got the call wrong. It was a well officiated game. I played basketball in high school & college. It is my guess and only a guess that the continual complaining about the officiating is from posters who never played a meaningful basketball game in their lives.

I very seldom have any trouble with the officiating. It really is amazing how good the officiating in the Big Ten is. The players are so big & fast, it makes the game almost impossible to officiate. The officials have to make a decision in a fraction of a second. It really is surprising that the number of bad calls isn't ten-fold.

There are bad calls in every athletic event. It happens, get over it. To post after every game criticiszing the refs is ridicules.
