Rees Morgan to the DL

Morgan is probably moving to the defensive side of the ball because "teaching" comes easily to him and it might not be a big jump. It also gives the luxury of bringing in Brian Ferentz and still having a mentor in Morgan.

Wow, I love logic analysis, with spot on key points and common sense. Great post.

Brian would be great for recruiting IF he is hired for OL.
I'm not a football coach, not like the thousands we have on here :) but I would think an Offensive Line Coach could coach the DLine really well. He knows the ins and outs of OLine and now can coach up the guys going against them. Good move!
Adding a younger staff member as Brian would be great to get some young blood on staff! Go Hawks.

You don't beat every team you have more talent than, and you beat some teams you are less talented than. That's football. We are not inordinately more talented than ISU or NW most years either. Would you be happy if we were 7-5 this year, but beat Minnesota and loss to Michigan? We have 7-5 talent, and we went 7-5.

Your outrage belies your common sense.

What is a 7-5 team? How can you come up with an arbitrary number without factoring in schedule?

I disagree that Iowa should have lost 5 games this past season and everyone can agree they had no business losing 5 the previous season.

And even so its not the number as much as the way the losses happened.

Iowa has underachieved at least 5 out of the last 7 years, dramatically so in 06 and 10

You can generally characterize them in that time period, with the exception of 09, as disorganized, unprepared, and consistently unmotivated and out schemed.

I don't question whether new ideas, methods and attitudes need to be introduced to the program I am positive of it.

The results are proof.

we? they? Why can't moves be made to bring in staff?
So you think moving a long time Oline coach to the Dline so that a 29 yr old can get his feet wet coaching Oline is a step in the right direction? When the Oline coach is the one that taught the 29 yr old pretty much all he knows about it.

would rather do a transition now and have Morgan's experience on staff to help the transition. better option than having no support for a newcomer when Morgan hangs up his whistle in a year or two.

My first reaction was WTF? But this is what comes to mind after thinking about it for a bit.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe Reese asked to take on the Dline assignment? While KF is loyal I think many of the staff are loyal to him and if Reese saw there might be a chance to bring in other good talent he may ask to be moved or agreed with it. Reese is in th eposition where i don't think he has to coach anymore if he doesn't want to.

The more I think about it and we keep asking for new blood in essence we are getting new blood with some of these moves. While we also get proven coaches who know the system and the lay of the land around the program. Maybe some of these changes will bring forth some new light/passion for some of the "stale" coaches.
