Red-hot Devyn Marble takes over go-to role

Pretty sure Devyn is done with being compared to his dad.
I think that horse has been beaten too much already.

Has to be. Nice that he's been able to make a name for himself. I don't I've heard 'Roy' used in a while. Guy has been straight lighting it up lately. If he can continue to be consistent with the 3 ball, and everyone else continues to improve like they have and did last season, no one is going to want to play the Hawks come the end of the year.

When Devyn came in to Iowa from Michigan, I thought his game was primarily as a shooter, from the arc,and I was a bit disappointed by his lack of accuracy his first 1.5 years....turns out that it was more of a matter of maturity(a year younger than most in his class),and strength...and eventually his shooting has returned.

Iowa needs him to shoot well from the arc to have a chance. Same with Oglesby and Gesell. I still think Iowa lacks a true creator on offense,so shooting is a must.

They need to shoot well, but I think Clemmons is a better version of BC (shoots better, turns it over less, and actually plays defense). I think he is a very good creator. Plus with the ball in his hands on the wing Marble is very capable of creating offense for himself and others. As Gesell shows his shooting he will be able to create more also. Hopefully Ogelsby comes back from injury shooting just as well as he was before the injury.

Marble is a little bit of a throwback in that his game actually has a mid-range shot. He doesn't just shoot threes or finish at the rim. I would love to see him really add some strength for next year and develop more of a post up game and become a better finisher at the rim. I think right now if he can develop those two parts of his game he will get serious looks from the NBA.

What you have to love about Devyn's game is that he's not overly quick in anything he does.
He's doesn't need the separation to get his shot. He uses his long arms and height at his position to get the shot he wants.

Some players need that quick first step to get to the hole or to be able to use a step-back jumper to its full potential. Devyn is more of a smooth operator. He's almost methodically slow in his moves and his shot, but it works.

I definitely think Devyn has assumed the go to role. At first I thought that White may find himself in that role, however Devyn has proved otherwise. On a side note, has anyone else noticed that White's production has taken a bit of a dive since Miller's post about where he could end up on the all time list. Coincidence?

White is more of a hustle guy. tips, oops, offensive rebounds. If he ever develops a jumper watch outttttt. It's a very good sign for us that RDMJR is assuming this role and not AW.

both White and Marble are settling into their roles just in time for the BT season, Marble the outside scorer and White the inside scorer and Muscle.
a very solid combination of the inside outside play this team needs

I hope Marble can keep it up when we stop playing high school teams and get into the BIG. He does that on a regular basis in the BIG then you can start talking NBA status especially in crunch time and making a three is the difference between a win or a loss; as opposed to whether you are going to win the game by twenty or forty points in what amounted to nothing more than a scrimmage.

Don't get me wrong as I would love to see him bring it every night in the BIG and I hope he does. I watched the game last night after I got home from work at 400 am. Apparently not too many fans were excited about the game as the PTL probably had more fans at it. I just hope Fran improves the nonconference schedule next season as games like this do little but pad player stats.

as I pointed out in another post Iowa has played 5 in the top 80 by Kenpom, 2 more inside the top 150.
4 between 270 and 299, and just 2 in the 300"s. thats 42% of the schedule in the top 80, what more do you want a schedule of Duke, Kansas, UNC and everybody else in the top 25?
