Recruits Worried?

not sure why you quoted me on this. I think Iowa is probably on par with other universities, just more at certain positions than others. I have no facts to back that up, just opinion.

Sometimes I get to liberal with the quote button. I just read the first line in your post so my apologies:eek:

It is worrisome to me on the recruiting front. It's hard to explain why all these students are leaving. Especially when it is a kid like Coker who was known as an outstanding student and citizen. If you don't think that recruits watch these boards/twitter to see what we think you are silly. There was a lot of negativity blaming anyone from Coker to Sally mason with zero fact. That is probably confusing and scary to recruits.

Then they better never get on the internet, listen to the radio, read the news because this happens EVERYWHERE! It's not like only Iowa fans do this.

As has already been stated, Coker is not the first player to leave the program in the last couple of years, for one reason or another. Not even close, unfortunately.

At some point, it becomes a trend. And I think we have already reached that point. Or passed it.

Yet some people will continue to say that KF is just a victim of bad luck, just like people were saying about Lickliter when players were flooding towards the exits after every season. I don't buy it, not when you have that many players getting in trouble or leaving the program every year... A couple players here and there, sure. But it's been what, 25-30+ recruits in the past 2-3 years? That seems pretty excessive, doesn't it?

Something isn't right.

Sorry the staff cannot babysit the players 24 hours a day. Players have made stupid mistakes and because Ferentz has some class he doesn't rush them out on the field like another in state school where someone can be charged with a felony and the head coach doesn't even bat an eye.

And this one wasn't even Ferentz, Coker himself implied that everything athletically related was great here....

he asked how it was creepy to be friends with a fellow student. Well Johnson isn't a fellow student yet. he's a commit who lives in Illinois.

I think it is very weird to be facebook friends with people you have never met.

I can't believe people meet on the internet and end up getting married. But it happens. Get with the times my man. :)

How is it a sad creepy life to be friends with a fellow student? Sorry that I'm not an old timer with nothing better to do than complain about people's social lives.
Wait, he is already enrolled? Nope, he is still in HS!! Do you know him? I am betting the answer is no.

Tell you what, when i was in college I did not know any of the athletes. And guess what? Accordingly none were friends on Facebook.

You hammer Fran but coddle Kirk. Kirk has had 13 seasons to build a program and it's a mess right now on the field and off. Fran has had 18 months to rebuild a program in a bigger mess than Kirk ever had in football. Yet, you are already writing off Fran and don't think there are any problems with Kirk.

Should Kirk be fired like some are saying? Absolutely not but he does need to make some changes to fix things. His loyalty is going to cause his demise if he doesn't make changes.

Very different story. They are going to a site to meet for that purpose. Facebook is not an internet dating site, last I checked. Big difference, especially when you are talking about 17 and 18 year old college kids.

I personally get a little creeped out when somone I have never met or talked to tries to become my friend on facebook.

I agree with a lot of this...but Fran's temper may be his demise when we get beat by 40 again or some ref is really taking us to the cleaner and he hauls off and punches him...He get's way upset at the ref...yelling is one thing but to come on the court and go toe to toe with them is another.

He acts like a lunatic...

What about Stoops? Can we get Stoops? We need Stoops.

.

Might want to check again. You can probably get more tail off of FB than you ever could off of an internet dating site. Just sayin.

With all the people leaving the team in recent years it seems like some recruits could be worried about coming to Iowa City. Hopefully the McCall and Coker departures don't cause any other casualties.

Internet media such as Rob Howe at Hawkeyeinsider.com putting out stupid misleading sensationalized article titles like "Ferentz, Iowa Sinking" probably doesn't help matters with recruits.

I understand Rob wants hits on his website and wants to make himself famous (obvious by the fact that he now places his name in front of all of his article titles), but he provides his false sensationalism at the expense of Iowa football's reputation.

It's a trend that players leave schools? I wouldn't consider it alarming unless we are one of the top schools in the country for player attrition. People like to say that these kids spend a lot of time on the internet reading these websites and that is why they might leave, but the comment stops there. If these kids are reading, chances are good they have done their homework and read the reasons WHY players left. How many of them left that were really the staff's fault? A lot of these players left of their own accord because they were homesick or didn't like their place on the depth chart. Honestly, some of the people on here act like we are Oklahoma or Miami from the mid 80s.

That site is the bottom of the totem pole for news and message boards. Rob is still hurt after being mocked for believing that djk was blackballed. Since then he will post anything negative about ferentz that he can.
Kinda sad to see he has fallen that fast. I used to enjoy that site a little.

And if our coaching staff can't get a recruit based on some internet speculation then they have failed tremendously at their job! Seriously, if this coaching staff can't convince a kid to ignore the hyperbole then this coaching staff is a giant failure.

Good grief, Penn State has a d@mn sex scandal and a new coach who is still on his NFL team and they are keeping and gaining commitments!!! Iowa has a 13 year veteran coaching staff and a bunch of internet malarchy and if that ends up damaging recruiting then maybe it's time for this staff to move on.
