Recruit a duel threat QB

The old style sit in the pocket QB just doesn't make it in the game today. Especially at a school like Iowa who doesn't have 5 star running backs and great talent at other positions. Stanley has to be the least mobile QB in college football. Obviously teams have picked up on it and are putting the pressure on. His inability to scramble and avoid some of the sacks is only part of it. He just doesn't have the ability to make a play with his legs. really hurts a team like Iowa with limited playmakers.

Hate to use Iowa State but they found a kid who can beat you both ways and he has made all the difference

PS For an offensive line that has two alleged NFL prospects they are really bad

We've recruited multiple dual threat QBs and gotten them on campus. They don't play and eventually transfer. Kirk doesn't want one.

He doesn't have to be able to run per say, although that would be nice, but F, Stanley seriously cannot even shuffle his feet, step up, side step, nothing. He literally drops back and anchors his feet to the ground and stands there.

We don’t necessarily need a dual threat guy, because KF won’t have that. Just somebody that can extend a play. All of KF’s best teams have had QB’s that can extend a play. I don’t understand how he doesn’t see this.

The Oline can be better obviously, but he just will not run. He doesn’t need to me Mike Vick, but make a decision and go instead of just being a statue

We have Mansell but dont play him and he is supposed to have some speed.

CJ Beathard had wheels.
"A house divided cannot stand," said somebody and that's how Kirk feels about QB controversy. Once you're the starter at Iowa you can suck as bad as you want, unless you threaten the job security of the HC. What? Kirk has an infinity and beyond contract, nevermind then. I think we have had some good mobile QB's the last few years but they have to transfer to see any playing time. I ask why the hell do we recruit them then and why would they come here.

Why not always have him in shotgun, he wastes half his time dropping back and setting up, by time he looks up he's dead already. If he's in shotgun at least he's looking at the defense, this might help him not call an audible run into a run blitz. I can have my dreams, right? If someone doesn't see the value if a mobile QB they didn't see last night's game.

Good points and some of KF's best offenses have been with mobile enough QBs. Chandler and Stanzi were mobile enough to escape and run for some big yards. A healthy CJB was definitely able to scamper like he did in 2015 on many runs like at ISU. Banks and Tate were probably the best at it and they both won a Big 10 Champ.

And as to your comment about not having Nate in the shotgun all the time well the theory is that under center your run game can go each direction and have the lead fullback. This leads to better play action passing but that only works when you run the ball well.

A few more 30 yard runs by Goodson breaking through the LOS and front seven and teams will have to think run first. Unfortunately we dont have the consistent running game yet,

I know I keep beating this dead horse, but both Petras & Mansell looked significantly better than Nate in the open practice. One play Mansell basically outran the entire defense. His throws were better than Nate's that day as well. It's just one practice, but I don't see how it can hurt at this point to let him play a few series.

Oh I agree. Anytime your QB is going to be graduating you need to get your backup QBs in against first team defenses for even a series or two and see what they can do, how they react, how they mentally perform.

Last year Mansell looked frozen at times in games but that is why you need to see them so you know what they will be like in 2020. Look for my upcoming thread.
