Recruiing

As much as I want McCaffrey to do well, his use of scholarships leaves a lot to be desired. I am not going to call anyone out, but clearly we lack athleticism at every spot on the floor. I am not sure how adding Meyer, Uthoff and Jok make this group an NCAA team. Too slow and suspect handles at the guard spot, no guys capable of getting their own shot and abysmal 3 point shooting. Props to Basabe and McCabe for showing up tonight, but the rest of the team laid a collective egg. Possibly the worst PG play I have ever seen re: decision making.

There is not a lot in the kids offered/considered to offered/ and had a realistic chance at in IL to make one think things are gonna change.

No power forward or strong center. No swagger. No Thomas, Brunner, Horton, Street, Millard, etc. Can't make it big time without the "men". Who actually makes the three at the end or goes to the line. Nobody.

Agree with blackgold. Why is it that so many of us silly fans recognized the need to get Tate, Evans, Thomas etc., down low and (ideally) another shooter, but our crack coaches didn't. This year looks like last year, just more bodies to run out there. We have lost to 3 teams with playmakers....hint to coaching staff.

We have the smartest fans in the world!!!

Hey brah, Fran doesn't read these forums. Send him an email or stop posting the same **** over and over.

It means not wilting and getting your butt pushed all over the court, stuffed and then dunked on. You are a legend.

Also, what a strange criticism for a team whose post players scored a majority of our points against a team with a very strong inside presence.

Look, I watched the game. woodbury was benched as usual . Olesini saw about 2 minutes. Ok, who is left? White was not there. Points came from McCabe 3's. You happy with 60 points on this big run and gun offense. Don't count on McCabe to deliver night in night out.

Of course not, I just don't simplify it my attributing that to "toughness". Bad offensive basketball in my mind comes down to one of three thing (ok, there maybe more but I'm pulling this out of my ***), bad decision making, missing open shots and just not being talented (quick) enough to do get open and run proper plays.

I feel like this team's problems lay mostly in the first two categories, which is great considering most of our problems in recent years had to with the fact that we just suck.

Agree to a large extent.

Perhaps Fran should read the forums, as he needs to get a clue in the big ten, you need a couple guys capable of doing things on talent alone. We had no answer for Nix, Payne and Dawson when they went beast mode. We stood there and got dunked on. Same situation against Indiana and one that will play out multiple times over the course of the season. PS: I am not your brah, nor do I want to be. Thanks for the insightful comment.

We have some of the dumbest fans in the world. Almost everything in the original post is wrong. Hard to take any of it seriously enough to debunk it, but I'll try.

"Recruiing,"

we are off to a great start.

"his use of scholarships leaves a lot to be desired... I am not sure how adding Meyer, Uthoff and Jok make this group an NCAA team,"

Uthoff was a top 100 prospect according to ESPN and a top 150 prospect according to Rivals, he and Jok are both shooters, they will help immensely and immediately. Iowa, more than bulk, needs guys that can knock down open shots. I'm not sure where Meyer fits in, or how good he is, but teams don't go 13 deep. I would have preferred a hyper athletic slasher in the 2013 class, but Jok is one hell of a shooter and a good ball handler, his athleticism is the only question.

"Too slow and suspect handles at the guard spot, no guys capable of getting their own shot and abysmal 3 point shooting,"

Typical freshmen will have games like this. Gesell had his moments but also made some poor decisions, where Clemmons was pretty bad all game. Neither are slow, and both had a few nice drives to the basket, Clemmons had trouble finishing. You are correct about shooting though, Iowa needs shooters, but you earlier crapped on Jok and Uthoff, so nice self-pwn.

"Why is it that so many of us silly fans recognized the need to get Tate, Evans, Thomas etc., down low,"

Tate averaged 7 points and 5 rebounds as a senior, Aaron White is at 13 and 6 as a sophomore and Woody is at 6 and 5 as a freshman. Thomas was worse than Tate, but yes, it would be nice to have Reggie Evans, a guy that went on to have a long NBA career. Good call, I'd like a BJ Armstrong and a Ricky Davis as well. It doesn't take much insight to pine for NBA players.

Watching Iowa fall in a close game sucks, but there is no need to get stupid, although I fear stupid is your natural state. Fran has recruited multiple ranked guys, and it's looking like he is in good shape with Malek Harris and Tyler Ulis in the class of 2014. Iowa has two guys at the point who will both be very good, and a center that is better than most realize- all are freshmen. They are a team with deficiencies though, they need more athletic wings and shooters, Fran has addressed the shooting with Jok and Uthoff, they will make the NCAAs next year, and possibly this year, but it's obviously harder after letting MSU off the hook.

And you have a better clue then Fran? What an ignorant comment... Expecting any of our underclassmen bigs to successfully compete against a SR (Nix) and a JR (Payne) is a tall order. Short of a few blue chip players, very few underclassmen bigs do well in the paint against upper classmen... I remember all the people who made fun of Lohaus as a FR and I believe he turned out fine...

But, hey since you seem to have a better clue then Fran... maybe we should have hired you to be the head coach. Better yet, why don't you post your resume for us all to see and let us compare who's more qualified?

Edit: Evans, Tate, and Thomas didn't even play at Iowa until they were a JRs as they all came from Community College...

Do you think your Wu-Tang Style can defeat Hawkstrat?
