Really we cant even go look

If the coach/player follow Iowa recruiting that closely then they would know that they won't just call back because he has 4 stars next to his name. If it were a school on the east coast or Chicago then you may be able to worry about the pipleline, but most kids in Nevada are thinking Pac 12 first anyway. Getting an offer from a university to play football is a priviledge, not a right.

Just saying the more places you have your fingers in the better. Surely the kid will take that OKST, offer now and they will have their fingers in that HS. I am not saying we should of offered, I am saying we should have been nice about it if we were'nt going to. What happens now if that HS has the next Jared Allen?

If there is one thing that no one can ever bash Kirk on it is his O-Line. This isn't even a story IMO

How many times does Iowa get a 4 star kid come out and say "Hey Look at me!! Look at me!!!" We blew this one.

I can't think of 1 good reason that the kid wouldn't have least got a look.

Maybe the Asst. Principal should have sent a DVD of the kid's highlights. Sorry, but I'm sure they get inundated with calls and e-mails from kids all the time. I'm sure there is a good reason why they didn't get back to him/aren't interested.

Maybe that's the problem w this staffs recruiting. They don't have luxuries when it comes to recruiting. They need to look everywhere. And btw aren't KF and staff suppose to be the really nice guys of college football? They can't return a phone call from a high school principal? You can take what you want from that.

I don't follow recruiting that closely but how many good players have they gotten because they were looking at someone else. Lo and behold it was the teammate that fit Iowa better. I have heard a few stories that way.

Right and you cant have it both ways. KF "uh we are just Iowa and cant attract high star players". Really you had one beating on the frigging door. Like I said I am not saying offer the kid, KF does a great job with the OL. Just saying that excuse is lame when you dont even answer a call from a school who put out a 4star player.

I personally haven't seen this kid play but his school isn't one of the top contenders here. Bishop Gormon is stacked with D-1 prospects fuk they recruit better than Iowa, that being said if this kid was a stud Bishop Gormon would have him. It's possible he couldn't make the grades there too...

Iowa doesn't go that far west to recruit
besides KF might lose his mantra of we are not sexy to get recruits
Iowa can't afford to turn up there noses at 4* talent
and there is no excuse in at least talking to the kid and the coach
who knows it might lead to recruits from Gorman, but at this rate we can forget about establishing a connection out west
for the record there is not a coach on this staff that actively recruit out west

OMG we cant recruit nationally? I wonder why.

I would say that there are two explanations here:
1. The coaching staff never got film of him and never saw him in camp. You don't recruit a player you've never seen play.
2. They saw film and/or saw him in camp and didn't like what they saw. You don't recruit a kid that you don't think can play for you.

I don't agree with the whole "They should have called him back" sentiment. The coaches only get so many phone calls. I think it's best to spend them on players who you know you are recruiting, rather than on guys you have no current interest in.

The only other reason I could think of for why they would recruit him is that they could tell that he and his principal are the type of people that would complain to a newspaper reporter when he didn't get recruited the way he wanted to.

Those are good points and I had said the same thing about film too. Rather than waste time with calls and e-mails (which the staff probably gets tons of) send a DVD of the kid's highlights. Besides there are only so many spots in this class and they have already signed two linemen and have a 5* and a 4* lineman from areas they already recruit interested in them. They are only going to take so many O line guys this year. Besides, it seems like some people on here are way to hung up on how many stars are beside a kid's name.

to put in a voice of reason
i am upset about not calling him back

but if you look at it from a #'s stand point
we lose a RT and a RG
we have committments from two that are slated at those 2 positions
the scholarships are limited
the staff still have 3 player that are highly rated if not higher
LT Diamond who is a 5* on scout and 4*'s on ESPN and rivals
LG Kozan is a 4* on all 3 sites
C Boehm a 4* on all three sites

so it is not like we are recruiting unknown players
Lutui a UCLA commit is a 4* and will get a look if the other go elsewhere and he decommits it is a #'s game lose certain players 1st priorty is to replace those players then go after the best possible player
Diamond would fit that bill if Reiff goes pro,
lose a LT get another LT
there is no snub in not offering
but on the defensive side that would be different as we graduate 6 D-L and only have 3 although i look for one of the de's switching to LB

Ding ding ding.

When it comes to recruiting OL, I trust KF much more than some little **** ant principal in Nevada. If we aint interested, then there's a rock solid reason why.
