Really we cant even go look

Look - I'm all for the pile on here, but let's be realistic.

There are thousands of HS football players that would like to play CFB, and thousands of principals who are Hawkeye fans that call the offices.

The fact that we haven't talked to him means we aren't interested...

Perhaps it is because he still hasn't qualified, and as a senior already has taken the ACT and/or SAT, and that the principal is calling his grades just "ok."

I wonder if his weight turned our staff off. IIRC he weighs 325 which is much bigger than guys we usually recruit.
A couple of years ago Iowa passed on a Hawkeye legacy center who went to Ohio St. Ferentz seems to know exactly what he is looking for as far as OL are concerned.

A 4 star kid, who is interested Iowa. It's not like we have never looked at other kids who have had a hard time with grades. I am just saying, if he wants to be here, that is a very very good sign and he most likely will not get home sick. He sounds like he wants to go pro, when people want something they tend to work their arse off to get it. If his coach says his grades are ok, well who knows what that means, but like I said, if he cant make grades and really wants to go here and get trained to go pro, he wouldnt be the first to have to go juco route. Least we could do is investigate it, ask him if he has the heart to put in that kind of work if needed. No reason to snub the kid.

I have 3 answers why they didn't talk to him:
1. Grades
2. Grades
3. Grades

How would you know this?

And how would Iowa know this? They never contacted the guy. How do they look at his grades without ever getting his info?

It may be the coaches feel we have better linemen coming in and they have other needs other than o-line. We can't bring in 20 four star O-linemen. Who would throw the ball and cover the WR on D?

What an idiotic, one-sided story...

Coaches are not allowed to comment on recruits, so there's no way to get Iowa's side on this. If there's one area that has been consistently good during KF's tenure, it's getting the right guys on the OL.

Maybe Iowa liked other guys on their board better. Maybe they looked at some film of him and didn't like what they saw. Maybe a hundred different things.

We might criticize the coaches for a lot of things, but some of you are seriously willing to question them about an offensive line prospect? Of all positions, you guys are questioning them on this one?

Really? You know more than they do on the subject?

Really?

I get that, and that is their job. I am just saying this is the second thread about a player (who is supposed to be good), that wants to come to Iowa, and we didnt even have the time to talk to them. Thats not good, I dont care how you slice it. How hard would it be to stop in there while out making visits, for an hour and talk to the kid and his coach. Or just pick up the phone and talk to them for a little bit. Thats pipeline building 101.
I know he may have been up against smaller guys, but he looks like he has the bully attitude we need. Poutasi gets physical - Rivals.com Video

Not returning the phone call was the mistake...it makes them look really bad. At least be nice enough to give them a call back with an explanation.

Hard to explain not calling a 4 star back. Like I said if they didnt like the kid for whatever reason, tell his coach why and maybe you just formed an inside track to future recruits (pipeline).

This is my only problem. A kid this good expresses strong interest like this should get at least a phone call, even if you decide you're not interested. Otherwise it just makes you look bad.

Yeah the principal did not present himself well in that interview. Sounded more like how the kid's brother would respond lol

If the coach/player follow Iowa recruiting that closely then they would know that they won't just call back because he has 4 stars next to his name. If it were a school on the east coast or Chicago then you may be able to worry about the pipleline, but most kids in Nevada are thinking Pac 12 first anyway. Getting an offer from a university to play football is a priviledge, not a right.
