Really CJ?

“We just got to figure out what we are not doing well enough right now,” Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard said. “There is a fine line between winning and losing games. We are on the losing side and we got to figure it out and watch the film and correct things.”

CJB is my favorite quarterback of all the QBs that have come through the Iowa program since 2000, but this statement is bad coach speak.

Kirk ferentz ruins returning quarter backs.

CJ is lost. He doesn't see the defense and throw horrible passes. If we are counting on CJ to rescue this season, get ready for a 6-7 or 7-6 season. Bring in Stanley and lets prepare for the future.

CJ is starting to take on one of those looks of street beggers looking for money and food at busy intersections. Maybe he should start holding a sign up at practice begging for a better o line and more innovated play calling.

That kind of communication sounds to these listening ears this translation:

"our goal for the season of making the playoffs are already toast. we knew it after the NDSU game. it's time to set new goals.

1) block
2) tackle
3) stay alive.

probably the last, first."

And really, that's the way this team has played since the NDSU game.

I think the coaching staff thought they could win the NDSU game without some starters and playing vanilla-vanilla.

King lost his captaincy following that game. I don't think the "out-coached" was about NW only. The rumblings in the mind began sooner I bet. I don't think King came back to play in the New York Yankee Bowl.

This is starting to remind me of Vandenburg in his senior year. So much promise as a junior, then as a senior, he was a totally different quarterback

People keep saying that on these forums, and they also say that about Stanzi. I dont disagree with you but why did he regress? People say it was the way that the coaching affected them. I am not trying to be facetious or obnoxious here.

I mean we all saw how Jake Rudock had a pretty damn good year at Michigan last year so is KF and coaching staff having this effect?

I would say there is a good chance it is so..

Well maybe you should watch tape and see if his receivers are getting any kind of real separation?? The pass at the end there to J Smith was on a rope and dude has to catch those balls. We don't have great receivers and our LT could not stop his guy and for whatever reason GD chose not to allow him some help in blocking that guy. What I do not understand is the running game not being better than what it is.

Rudock kinda showed the difference between being coached-up . . . and coached-down.

Can't say that since at Michigan he obviously had better receivers and the scheme is different and you don't have GD calling for a 2 yard pass on 3rd and 10.

he needs to take that damn brace off his leg and let it all hang out. Last play he should have ran and could have dove for the first down like the freaking TD he did at Indiana. Fly man.

Probably has something to do with being the only power 5 team to start 2 walk on lineman. That just can't happen, and doesn't happen anywhere but Iowa.

It was out of reach, how was he supposed to catch it? If he would have put just a little more air under it then it would have been a catch

I was hoping this wasn't true. But, it's essentially been the case with every senior QB after Brad Banks (and I'm not sure he started much/at all prior to his senior season).

What do you expect him to say? "Well, if my offensive line could block anyone I'm sure my passing numbers would look much better. Oh, and if I had a receiver that could get some separation that would help too. Lastly, since Greg Davis never runs anything deep or tests a defense deep, defenses sit on our short routes which forces me to put a ball in a shoe box (thanks ESPN). I also wish Davis would get his head out of his ass and commit to the run game fully."

Is that what you want him to say...I thought what he said was right on for being a good teammate. I'm sure he said it somewhere...but he needs to get the ball out if his first or second option aren't there. Throw it away.

That he wears the brace is indicative. One doesn't want further damage and people oft don't know about or forget about the psychology after a knee injury. A real good brace isn't like what one buys at Dick's. It keeps things in place to prevent further tearing. Formerly he played like Farve. Now he looks like he's trying to be Brady. He isn't Brady by personality. The brace probably has some impact, not because of the brace but that he has to wear a brace.
