Reality check?

First off everyone knows who Uthoff is but who in the hell is Michael Jordon????????

I might be wrong here, but I believe he played baseball but never made it to the big leagues. He played outfield for the White Sox minor league team. Beyond that, who knows.

Sorry, I couldn't resist, but that does remind me of a joke I once heard. Bear with me if you have heard this one before.

Two strangers are in a bar sitting next to each other. The waitress walks by them and stops and says "Hi Bob" to one of them. Then the bartender comes over and says "What can I get for you today Bob?" The guy sitting next to him says him "Wow you are really popular in here." Bob responds by telling him that, that is nothing and that he is know in every restaurant and bar in the city. The stranger finds this hard to believe but Bob challenges him by telling the stranger that he can take him to any bar in the city and people in that bar will know him. So the stranger takes the challenge and randomly stops at a bar.

As they enter the bar several people wave and say "Hi Bob how is it going?" The stranger is very impressed and tells Bob that he is impressed. Bob say awe that's nothing I know the governor also. The stranger is skeptical and ask Bob to introduce him to the governor. So Bob makes arrangements for the following Wednesday to meet the governor with the stranger. Sure enough they meet the governor meets with them. The stranger is really impressed and tells Bob that he is really impressed. Bob says "Awe that aint nothing. I personally know the Pope. The stranger laughs at Bob and says "Sure Bob, sure." Bob says to the stranger I will prove it to you. Bob says he has a business trip to Rome the upcoming month and he says to the stranger that he will invite the stranger along as a business associate. The stranger says to Bob that he is crazy but that he always wanted to see Rome.

So on the appointed day they fly to Rome. Unfortunately it is during a major Catholic celebration and the square is full of thousands of people waiting to see the Pope come out on the Balcony to wave to everyone. Bob says to the stranger that he might not be able to get the stranger in to talk to the Pope with everything that is going on. Bob says to the stranger would it be good enough if I can get the Pope to allow me to come out onto the balcony and wave to you from there. The stranger says to Bob "Sure Bob, sure, the Pope is going to come out onto the balcony with you and let you wave to me. Well have it Bob, this ought to be good." Sure enough, about thirty minutes later the Pope steps out onto the balcony with Bob and they are waving at the crowd. A few minutes later Bob looks ate a commotion exactly where he waved to the stranger but now he can't see the stranger. So Bob rushes down to see if something happened. He finds the stranger lying on the ground with other people assisting him. Bob goes to the stranger side and ask if he is alright and what happened. The stranger says he fainted. Bob asked what caused him to faint? The stranger says "Well it really impressed me when the people at the bars knew you. Also when you introduced me to the Governor, and I just was speechless when you came out onto the balcony with the Pope. However when the guy standing next to me tapped me on the shoulder and asked me who the guy with the robes and crown was standing next to Bob, well I fainted at that point."

Michael Jordan is an old guy that use to play basketball. He sells underwear now. He was pretty good, but I always though Magic Johnson was better.

Michael Jordan was better at his postion. Magic Johnson was more versatile.

Just my 2¢ .. ..

GO HAWKS!!!

He makes a valid point regardless of whether people want to hear if.

I expect JU to be quite good THIS season but the hyperbole surrounding his game might be slightly much at this point. He puts up 20 on Kansas? Might be going to NBA

It's stupid because no one is seriously making anything even close to such comparisons.

MJ is the best player to ever play the game. Period. Could he be passed up? Yes, but as of this moment, he is number one, with Jarrod Uthoff being a very close second.

Yea but you are thinking mj the NBA player. Uthoff is better than mj the sophomore tarheal.

wow. I guess this is some sort of trolling thing? Nobody has been making those comparisons about Uthoff.

He isn't Michael Jordan ! More of a Keith Van Horn type of player . If your gonna beunrealistic at least be realistic

You know, I'm not sure all these player comparisons are fair. Realistically, if Jesus were here today, and he played basketball, his name would be Jarrod Uthoff.

I didn't intend to state that he was as good as Kevin Garnett. Just more similar to KG than Keith Van Horn (not at all), Andre Kirelenko (I'll give you that one) or Larry Bird (what was that dude thinking?).

Most similar NBA players to current Hawkeyes (skill level adjusted, obviously):

Mike Gesell - Brandon Jennings
Aaron White - Lamar Odom
Jarrod Uthoff - Kevin Garnett/Gordon Hayward
Melsahn Basabe - Antonio Davis
Peter Jok - Luol Deng (coincidence, I swear!)
Anthony Clemmons - Mike Conley, Jr.
Adam Woodbury - Robin Lopez
Zach McCabe - Markief Morris

How is Uthoff not similar to KVH? They have very similar games, with Van Horn obviously being a rich man's version of Jarrod so far.

Keith Van Horn was a three point shooter who wouldn't play interior defense. Uthoff has a strong intermediate game and likes to block shots and grab boards. Like I said, Jarrod's game is more similar to KG.

Van Horn was not just a three point shooter, although he was very good at it. He got the free throw line about 6 times per game for his career, guys who just shoot 3's don't get to the free throw line that often. He also averaged over 8 rebounds a game every year in college, and 9.5 as a senior and averaged over a block a game. Maybe you're referring to Van Horn's NBA career after he had battled injuries, but in college he was certainly much, much more than a 3 point shooter.

Don't get me wrong, they're not diametric opposites, I just think there are better comparisons.

Detlef Schrempf? I used to kill with this guy paired with babymaker, Shawn Kemp, in NBA Jam.

The OP makes a legitimate point without knocking Uthoff, but still the jackals respond with name calling. Jon, not sure why you don't ban the handful of clowns who detract, demean and discourage from actual conversation on here. it is your board and your call, just stating my opinion. For anyone new to the board, do not say Woodbury isn't a future NBA lottery pick, question recruiting or player development, or you will be called names by the experts. Sad that you can't get read more than 1-2 responses the idiocy begins.
