Rating the D and O

I give Iowas defense a B and the offense a D.

Defense seems to be coming on and should keep the Hawks in a lot of ball games. James Morris was great! I feel for him in this Iowa State loss.

The offense lacks a go to receiver and Vandenberg isn't what I thought he would be after two games. Offensive line appears to struggle at times. The offense is concerning to me.

Defense: B+

Offensive coaching/play calling: D
Offensive execution: F

Edited for accuracy.

Defense an A-
Offense an F

The defense did everything asked of them. They held Iowa State to 9 points and caused 4(?) turnovers. The offense couldn't even score a touchdown from the 3 yard line.

Offense cannot be better than an F. 3 points out of 2 red zone trips. Not much better last week. Our O flat out blows.

Defense - B+
Offense - F
I give the offense an F overall for the season. Granted it's a new system that they are implementing, but this offense is absolutley hapless. 2 games, 1 TD. I don't see this team winning more than 5 games.

all i read/heard since spring was how much "better" and easier this "new" offense was - so how come we dont see results??

any idea what kind of contract GD got? i want chuck long

Defense gets a solid A.

Offense gets a solid F--.

Going in to the year everyone was afraid that the young defensive line would hold us back. They obviously are gonna have issues playing better teams but you can't ask a defense to do better than hold a team to 9 points.

DEFENSE A

Offense couldn't have been worse.

OFFENSE...they don't even deserve an F. They should all be expelled from school. Just punt on first down and hope for turnovers until you find 11 offensive guys who deserve to suit up for a div 1 team.

I'ts apparent the defense is better than at anytime last season. Hey, we actually tried to prevent the pass completion at times. Once the Iowa defense realized Jantz is a poor man's T. Pryor (former QB for tOSU), they buttoned up his run and were able to force him to pass, which isn't his strong suit. Sidenote: Considering Jantz's turnovers, some poor decision making, and his inabilty to accurately throw more than 10 yards, I'm not sure he'll beat out Barnett as starting QB for State.

The offense. It's all about the lack of receiving. We all know JVB throws the ball with great velocity. Should the staff force JVB to put more touch on the ball or force receivers to be more practiced to catch the fastball thrown to them?

EDIT: IMO, Iowa's pass defense still has miles to go to be adequate - especially with no pass rush.

The QB can't throw, the receivers can't catch. The RB is pretty good at times.

But it's a big fat F cuz they p!ssed their pants every time it mattered.

Defense was a B-, ISU had some people wide open and Jantz just missed them. Overthrew a lot of open receivers.

Offense was an F.

Defense: A
They really stiffened up after that first ISU drive. They are a pass rush away from being a very good, if inexperienced, overall defense. Caused 4 turnovers. The loss is certainly not on Phil Parker's crew.

Offense: F+
This is all on the passing game. James Vandenburg was awful most of the day and the few times when he was on time and accurate with his throws the slow and thus often covered receivers would drop them anyway. We are witnessing now just how good we had it with DJK and McNutt at WR.
I only added the '+' because the pass blocking was much better today than last week. I also liked seeing Bullock making some nice catches out of the backfield but he's not a RB that can take over a game on his own like Greene or Coker (yet?).

And I hate to say it but ISU looked faster and bigger than Iowa in most matchups across the board and that is all on recruiting.

Agree, think people are overrating the defense. If Jantz could throw a deep ball this game could have been real ugly.
