Rank Iowa's Deficiencies.

Considering they haven't played a game yet maybe we should wait to make such determinations. Which presidential candidate are you going to vote for in 2020 and what are their strengths and weaknesses? Also can someone please tell me what the temperature and weather conditions will be like on October 28, 2018?

i know, I know it just a topic used to pass time and speculate on what fans THINK will be their weaknesses. The schedule is weak based on average schedules and the general performances of the teams in their schedule. Just an average B1G team would go 8-4 easily with this schedule and anything less is unacceptable.

Ok, I will play......... The biggest concern is obviously the offensive line. You can't win if the QB is on his back and the running backs are getting tackled in the backfield. Let's hope this doesn't happen. Go Hawks!!!! Let's win the first one.

Loosen up a bit. Can't really do this thing at the end of the season. It's a legit question to start the season, what are the most important areas to rectify to have a good season. I think you read into things a little too much at times.

Score more points than opponents
Allow less points than we score
Don't turn the ball over
Act like we've been there and expect to be in the CFP
Special Teams being "special" again

You're pretty optimistic if you think we can win under those circumstances.

Lol, yeah that was a typo. I thought I had corrected that. When I hit save it must not have changed that to CANT. I will correct that.

I've really dug into this topic and find that iowa's top 5 areas of deficiency this year are as follows:
1) DBs
2) DL
3) RB/FB
4) Field goal
5) LBs

We're all good otherwise

Well if you will notice I addressed that in my second paragraph. I realize that's what the boards are about. Fans getting together to talk and speculate. Really all we have to go on at this point is how we did last season with the players that are returning and how we hope each player has improved during the off season. I of course always hope for he best. It's been pretty disappointing the last few years.

Come on! The defensive backfield is considered by most people to be a major strength of this team. They are definitely not a deficiency.

His posts consist solely of contradictions, and an making a legitimate argument one must present a divergent point of view. It is more than just saying no it isn't. I don't think to highly of posts that are so lacking.

Not true and no they aren't. No it isn't. Yes you do.

DB's at #1 is really suspect. Actually, I think they are a strength of this years team.

Ok. Here are mine by importance.

1) OL, particular two new tackles - This can dictate the for both the run game and pass game. If holes cannot be opened, can't run the ball to move the chain. If can't keep CJ upright, can't get the passing game going. This is critical. If they do well, CJ will look good.
2) DL, in particular interior D-line - Have to get that interior run D stout to create 3rd and longs. This will help the D get off the field. Iowa is fine with Ott at D-end but the other D-end will need to prove.
3) LB - They will have a year under their belt which is good but still need to prove themselves and develop consistency. They need to help control the line of scrimmage to get the D off the field to rest. Still growing but was #1 on last years list.
4) WR/TE - Iowa has one legit Div 1 proven WR at this point and he's going to get the opponent's best defender. Iowa needs others to step up & prove themselves. They seem to have difficulty creating space at the correct times to get on the same page with the receiver. Iowa did not have an offensive TD by the 1st string in 3 open to the public practices. Iowa needs success here to loosen the D for the run game, otherwise teams will stack to stop the run. The coaches need to trust the players and open this part of the game up more.
5) Special Teams - I gave this last spot to special teams just over the RB's. I think if the O-line can come around the RB game will take care of itself. Iowa has to find more consistency with the PK position. More importantly Iowa needs to find success with the punt game with consistency. It is crucial to be able to change field position and make teams go the length of the field or to corner them within the 20. Successful Iowa teams of the past were special with their special teams. The punting cannot be overlooked.
