R.I.P. Coach Norm Parker

Sad, very sad. Great football mind. I wish he would have gotten his diabetes under control - he may still be around today.

Norm deserves as much credit as anyone for the football team's success while he was coach. Condolences to his family.

Best Defense coordinator in my lifetime, and I say that without an ounce of hyperbole. Nobody did more with less and you always knew his D would keep it close. Well miss you coach.

Norm was everything I would ever want in a coach, mentor, teacher, motivator, etc.

One of the greats....100's of young men are better today for having known him.

God Bless his family.

His joke was always that he kept coaching because his wife didn't want him around the house. I'd be willing to bet a day like today disproves that theory.

If you want an idea of how Norm impacted his players, this quote says it all. (it's been tweeted by at least a couple of his players)

Boys do what they want to do. Men do what they have to do.

Sometimes your defense's could frustrate Norm...but at the end of the day, you were an amazing coach and an even better person. And I thank you for a lot of the amazing Hawkeye football memories I have.

What an icon, Hawkeyenation lost a great one today! Thoughts to the family.

Now Hawkeye Football...let's get this man a statue...or something. Norm now belongs to the ages.

Maybe Norm will have an area in the new practice facility named after him.

Initially, I thought NP was overrated he was just a byproduct of coaching under former Steeler defensive coaches(Perles/Widenhofer). It took me longer than most to appreciate what a good football coach he was. The way college football is today coaches like NP aren't around anymore, he was a true gem.

RIP NP

Condolences to his close friends and family. I always loved it when Norm was on the Hawk banquet circuit. I can't imagine the memories and stories his players were able to hear and recite. Loved his coaching and preparation. He will be missed as a person, and forever remembered as a great Defensive wizard. RIP Norm, my picture of us just got moved to the front shelf.

Reading those tweets...you can just tell how much Norm meant to those players.

Can't say enough about this legend. Someone else mentioned a statue or something....I'm on board with that. Caption...."boys do what they want to...MEN do what the need to"
