I do disagree that if the Coaching staff didn't offer Ebert there are several GOOD reasons, but I doubt learning our system is one.

A key reason ... and possibly the ONLY reason why we didn't offer him is that he wasn't going to be able to join the team in the spring. That's what I've heard. It seems to be the mode of operation of the coaches when it comes to JUCOs.

As a developmental program, Iowa tends not to have to rely upon JUCOs ... and if we DO extend an offer to them, it's because we feel like we need to bolster our depth IMMEDIATELY.

Even with the given departures on the DL ... the 2011 DL still looks pretty good. At DT alone we have Daniels, Bigach, and Nardo. Furthermore, Carl Davis, Trinca-Pasat, and Covert may be capable of contributing pretty well too. The cupboard isn't necessarily flashy, nor does it have a ton of experienced depth ... but I'm not particularly worried about it either.

Sorry oops I meant I agree there has to be a good reason why Iowa didn't offer. I was just saying playing DT under Norm isn't exactly a big play book was I meant.

The name to watch then is going to be Covert- loved what I saw of him in the spring drills, and he now has had time to get bigger, stronger and faster. I was surprised to see Trinca-Pasat as a DT but he can probably impact at muliple spots and may move to DE before all is said and done.

He actually is staying at Iowa, just not playing football
