QB position next year

What does Petras do that Mansell can’t? Petras isn’t close to as mobile as Mansell and from what I see, not as accurate. Outside of him being 6’5”, I’m not sure what else he brings.

i get that. but if being a mobile is so valuable to kirk, why have we not used a mobile qb since banks? my point is that Petras is the type of qb kirk wants. look, i really like mansell...i wanted RPO packages all season long with mansell. but kirk doesn't have that preference.

What you're basically saying is that if they are bad enough, Kirk will replace them/give somebody else a shot which contradicts your earlier point. The big question is how bad does Stanley have to play before Kirk gives Mansell a chance? I honestly don't think that Stanley has a chance to be bad enough to be replaced/give somebody else a shot. If Mansell didn't get a chance after the first half of PSU I doubt that he'll get one next year barring injury of course.

Actually, in 2007 Arvell Nelson was given the chance. He blew it, but he was in line to take the job from Jake C. Come 2008, Stanzi actually got the start against ISU, but Jake came off the bench and helped turn the tide in our favor. Jake got the start against Pitt and promptly tossed the job back to Stanzi, in spite of Stanzi's hacking the coaches off at the end of the first half of that Pitt game.

You never know.

DATE OPPONENT
9-5-09 NORTHERN IOWA WON 17-16
9-12-09 at Iowa State WON 35-3
9-19-09 ARIZONA WON 27-17
9-26-09 at Penn State WON 21-10
10-3-09 ARKANSAS STATE WON 24-21
10-10-09 MICHIGAN WON 30-28
10-17-09 at Wisconsin WON 20-10
10-24-09 at Michigan State WON 15-13

10-31-09 INDIANA WON 42-24
11-7-09 NORTHWESTERN LOST 10-17
11-14-09 at Ohio State LOST 24-27 (OT)

11-21-09 MINNESOTA WON 12-0

That schedule was a meat-grinder, and Iowa was a Stanzi ankle-sprain away from running the table.
That Iowa defense returned almost everyone from 2008 and it was loaded with NFL talent. 8 starters from that 09 defense were NFL draft picks. Next season's team won't have that luxury
