Put the brakes on a bit

Some are running a bit too far afield with this Coker stuff..posting theories and bringing McCall into it.

We can all come up with numerous theories, but they are all based on assumptions...and in some instances, pretty big assumptions.

We have the matters of record in the police reports and newspaper articles. Authorities were called and an assault investigation took place, and someone was taken to the hospital.

Generally speaking, just because charges are not filed doesn't mean nothing happens and in instances where charges are filed it doesn't mean someone is guilty.

Please just stick to what is a matter of public record.

I didn't know it was McCall that Coker ALLEDGEDLY assaulted. I don't blame him for leaving. And Coker doesn't exactly try to juke you...he comes right at you.

Agreed. Especially all of the blame the victim stuff. We can be fans of the Iowa football team. Disappointed in losing our star RB... but not turn into awful, sexist, conspiracy nuts. Especially since nobody has all of the facts.

+1. nice contribution to the posts in this subject matter today.

I appreciate opinions like this. Thanks

Thanks! I really just want my fellow Hawkeye football fans to hold themselves to a higher standard. College & NFL football fans are not always hateful, zombie-like, meatheads. We all feel the sting of losing a skilled athlete, but when necessary we have the acumen to realize that football is just a game. Sometimes other things in life take precedence over the game and our personal enjoyment of the sport.

This kid has potential! You might want to change your username.:D;)

Well now that's no fun.

I know guys in similar situations as Coker that were the victim. I personally wasn't blaming "the victim" because Coker was Iowas running back, rather because he could be the "victim" here.

I think the next issue to discuss is the battle between UI admin & the fball program.
These issues don't end well, someone will lose their job.

In my opinion, Sally Mason wins.

I'm wondering the AD's decision to suspend Coker for the bowl was discretionary or if there are hard and fast athletic department rules that forced his hand. I assume the suspension of Coker (student-athlete) participation in an athletic event is covered in the rules put in place by the University as a whole. I'm wondering if their were additional penalties and procedures that required something other of Coker than to reapply for reinstatement to the team. It seems to me that given the fact that there was a legal investigation of the matter and the County's DA found nothing that would warrant charges(in fact he said Coker was innocent)that the University, procedurally, would not punish a student-athlete unless their was an on going investigation into the charges or that the student was found to be in violation of rules of conduct apart from anything legally related.

I want to know the University rules in regards to an alleged sexual assault between a student-athlete and (probably) another student.

My only issue with this situation is that somehow Marcus Coker is punished for something he presumably didn't do. Some say that, "well maybe he did do something". Well then the burden is not on Marcus Coker to exonerate himself of charges, it's on the alleged victim to prove such a case, yet somehow Marcus is being presumed guilty on certain levels. I'm not saying this to minimize domestic violence or any type of physical assault, but for people to say things like, "we don't know if he's innocent, etc..." Well I think Marcus deserves the benefit of the doubt here unless there was/is direct evidence against him. I know for a fact if there was an assault, any type of injury, marks, etc., would require a mandatory arrest for Marcus. That obviously did not happen, so I ask why was he even suspended?

What Coker did or didn't do is irrelevant at this point as far as I'm concerned.
The fact that the UI administration overruled Barta/KF is what is interesting.
If you're Gary Barta, you just were told indirectly that the administration doesn't care what you think and your boss' will just bypass you on important decisions.
This really can't end any other way than Barta being fired or more likely him leaving.
