Purdue Head Coach Fired

Its one of those things about college football that sometimes a good head coach takes a job where it is tough to win or where the administration doesn't care about football. So a great coach like Hazell can't wind up fired for not winning enough when he was doing a good job with what he had.

Hazel was out of his league. He should be grateful they kept him for as long as they did. He is set for life. (and what they had was what Hazel was responsible for bringing to Purdue) Joe Tiller won at Purdue and so have others.

For pure entertainment value, I wish they would get Bo Pelini. He would upgrade the program.

Well if they somehow don't choose GD ( fear of flying ? ), this would be the next-best thing, from an Iowa perspective.

He'd give a little more spice to the B1G coaching ranks, he's good enough to make them a little better, but not good / innovative enough to think they'd ever be really good. Win win win ! Oh, and Purdue Michigan would be a must-see game, hoping Bo would punch Harbaugh.

I think if I was Purdue I'd let Spurrier name his price. He's old, and they'd only get a few years, but he might be able to at least get them going in the right direction in that time. I don't think he'd accept, but I'd make the offer.

Actually beating Iowa would've saved Hazell's job. You wouldn't fire hime with a winning record and back to back conference wins. So I completely disagree with that statement.

Yea, maybe for a week. It was really trivial by this point. You could tell he totally lost the team watching the Iowa game. They were pretty much checked out. They had to do it.

In other words you're saying there's no hope.

Pretty much. Rose Ade stadium is nothing special and equiv to an old Jack Trice before the nice upgrades to Jack Trice. krist sakes, Rose Ade is just getting lights for next year and only because it is a BIG standard for all stadiums. They are quite behind with football upgrades, although are planning those. That coupled with the city not being that special reminded me of Ames.

It sure looked like it in the first half. I did not see the 2nd half did we check out and give up in the 2nd half? We gave up 4 TDs for Pete Sake.

Coaches pulled most starters and had 2nd and 3rd string in. When Purdon't got closer, they put the starters back in. That makes me nervous about Iowa's depth more than anything. I think they can hold their own with the 1's, but after that can be a question.

That makes sense based on the first half beat down. You are correct about depth....mediocre very mediocre recruiting has placed us at this juncture of talent drain. We know based on NDSU that if we lose a couple OLmen we are dead in the water offensively.

Agree, but the only way the 2nd and 3rd teamers really get to see any film of themselves is with playing time. Unfortunately that was against the opponents first team if I recall correctly.

Oh absolutely it's great that we were in a blowout to give the 2s and 3s some PT that's great for development and you practice all year you want PT. Wish we would've done that against Miami OH...we did do it against the Psyclowns.

Lol my only disappointment was that it allowed for the game to appear somewhat close looking at the final score.

I still can't believe this guy got fired, he was such a good guy. We need more good guys who will just do whats best for the kids regardless of whether it wins football games. I wish we had a guy like that.
