Purdue -13

I'm surprised at how many posters think Iowa has a good shot in this one. Life on the road in the Big 10 is tough, especially against a top 15 team who expects to compete for a Big 10 title.

I consider myself a pretty big homer and I think Iowa has a very low chance of winning and most likely even keeping this one close.

Remember one of the concerns about this team was that we don't have a "true center." Whoever guards Haas is going to be giving up 4-5 inches. Swanigan is a matchup problem for anyone and Edwards is as good of a wing player as there is in the conference.

I hope I get to eat some crow tomorrow but I think some people are in for a long night if they are expecting Iowa to win this one.

Agreed, it is just sooo tough to win on the road in the B1G. Even though we won last year there, it has been a house of horrors for us for years at Purdue. I don't like our chances tonight.

That said, if we win tonight, it is going to be hard for me to not get unrealistically optimistic about this team. :)

So the refs are calling like they are supposed to, and calling the rough fouls and hand checks??

If so, then mugging Jok might draw some fouls. That would get us to the line.... It's a strategy that I would plan on, but not count on.... But rather count it as a bonus if it happens. And expect it to not happen and prepare for the muggings.

Lol. Not exactly. Ted Valentine, Gene Seratore, and that guy with the super gray hair were on the call in this one. Tons of ticky tac calls, tons of mugs not called. This guy on Minny could have been charged with with assault on Ward in the post in OT and nothing got called. They bailed out Minnesota on out of control drives a lot.

Most of the fouls were called on hand checks when players tried driving to the hoop. That won't benefit Iowa because we don't really have any drivers outside of Moss.

I thought the same thing. Lots of ticky tac calls early, but come down to the last 10 min. of the game and overtime, they lets tons of straight up muggings go.

There are so many ways to win or lose a basketball game that it makes no sense to even say something like that. What if their bigs get into foul trouble? What if their whole team shoots like crap? What if Jok has a pretty good game and Moss and Bohannon both make 6 3s?

If they are 14 points better than us, all it takes to win is for them to miss a few more shots than expected and us to make a few more shots than expected. The margin for error is extremely small in basketball. That's why there are so many upsets.

Agree. Iowa has other players to step up and a variety of players to change things up and strategies in a game.

If you are a one-dimensional team and lose your best shooter, than yes, you could be screwed. That is not the case with this Iowa team. A lot of ingredients to a couple different recipes.

If Iowa wins. (cough cough, they won't) It will be because someone under the radar comes up huge. Everybody in the country knows about Jok and they will be all over him. Teams will take Jok away and say, "Somebody else will have to beat us cause it ain't gonna be Jok."

I love games where there is nothing to lose and everything to gain. No stress.
Agreed. I'm excited for this game. Not cause I think Iowa will win. Just because I love the make up of this team and enjoy watching them play.
