Pulling for Jake

From the most recent reports, it sounds like Jake hit a couple of guys deep over the top. Does this mean that he may have developed this part of his game significantly since last winter?

Also, his interviews seem to have evolved from calm, clear and confident to calm, clear, with a bit of swagger. I like it.

Just spit-ballin' here as we chomp at the bit for kickoff, but I welcome any thoughts.

If you look at what Jake did as a first year So. starter last year, it was very impressive. Road wins at ISU, Nebraska, Minny, and Purdue. I think he only gets better, as he is a high domer, and will only get better at reading defenses and taking what they give him. I expect some good things from him and the passing game this year. Or at least Iowa good, not Oregon good or anything crazy like that.

For a sophomore he had a good year. He will improve this year and have an even better year. He be just fine

I think he will be better than "fine" this year. I think he is going to be quite good this year.

For a soph... I thought Jake was pretty darn good. I already expected improvement as he becomes an upper classsman and with a year of experience under his belt.

But boy I got excited hearing Dinardo (I believe is who said it) say Jake was on fire the other day at practice!! Maybe now I need to temper my expecations.

What I liked from the BTN show was that Iowa was working on their deep throws. As we all know deep throws were missing last year. With the emergence of Powell, Wilies etc. Maybe Iowa gets a deep threat that keeps teams out of the box and opens up the whole offensive package.
Getting excited! Go Hawks!

Not just jake but Iowa needs to develop a deep threat. Its been a major problem for years. Qbs and coaches have been very conservative in this and it has really given defenses a huge advantage.

I am encouraged by the impressions that Jake and the Iowa passing game made on the BTN crew. I have to think that Jake has a stronger arm this year, to be that impressive on deep throws. Last year, when we went deep, Jake seemed to underthrow them and got picked off a few times....like the MSU game. To be fair, it was one of the windiest seasons I can ever remember....and very cold also. When he threw deep against the wind...no shot. Same at the spring game this year. Lets hope for nice autumn weather for game days this season.

Yep--especially when we have a run game that can consistently get 4+ yards and can afford to "waste" a down on a deep ball.

It will be cold this season.

I found a walnut squirreled away next to my house 3 days ago. Not looking good for a more mild autumn if the squirrels are right.

I fully expect more passes to be thrown that travel past the line of scrimmage this year.

This is what I am wondering (hoping). I agree with the previous posts that he had a good sophomore year, but the deep ball question is the one I want answered. We won't know until game time I suppose. 8 days!!!!

One item from the interview with Craig Davis was that last year Jake was allowed to change out of the running play called to a different running play. This fall he is being allowed to change out of the pass play called to a different pass play. He is being allowed this flexibility because he is able to read defenses much better. Having the ability to change plays could pay dividends, but the line, receivers and backs must be able to know the play calls as well as the QB.

I think it was Dinardo who said Jake was 1 of 3 QBs they saw on 14-team B1G tour that threw the ball well...1 practice is certainly a small sampling tho
